Impacts From Sally Expected To Reach The Northern Gulf Coast Later Today - Sally is expected to intensify to a hurricane by tonight and make landfall in the hurricane warning area on Tuesday. Hurricane warnings extend from Morgan City, Louisiana, to the Mississippi/Alabama border. Tropical Storm Sally Tracking Toward the Northern Gulf Coast - Tropical Storm Sally is forecast to strengthen to a hurricane early next week as it moves across the northeastern Gulf of Mexico. Hurricane and Storm Surge Watches have been issued from southeastern Louisiana to the Alabama coast. Flash flooding is also likely with 6 to 12 inches and locally 18 inches. Heavy Rain and Flooding in Florida; Poor Air Quality From Smoke In the West - Tropical Depression Nineteen will produce heavy rain and possible flash flooding over south and west-central Florida. The system is expected to become a Tropical Storm later today or tonight, as it reaches the southeastern Gulf of Mexico. Impactful Western Weather Slowly Diminishing - Elevated fire weather threats remain for portions of the West Coast, but as winds continue to decrease, these threats will also weaken. Wintry weather in the Rockies and Plains will gradually decrease. Heavy rain and flash flooding will be possible for central Texas, and portions of the East Coast. Widespread weather impacts expected across the Western to Central U.S. over the next two days. - An upper-level low will move slowly across the Four Corners region today as south-southwesterly mid-level flow remains over the southern Plains. At the surface, a cold front will advance southeastward across the western Texas Hill Country, north Texas and southeast Oklahoma. Thunderstorm development will be likely along parts of the front by afternoon. Although moderate instability may develop in parts of central and north Texas this afternoon, deep-layer shear will be relatively weak. This is expected to keep any storms that develop sub-severe late this afternoon and early evening.
