The Red wings came out flying in the first period and peppered Jake Allen with 15 shots, but they could not capitalize on any of their opportunities. The second period would see an offensive explosion of 5 goals by the Blues and Red Wings. The Red Wings took a 3-0 lead in to the late part of the second period. Only to have David Perron and Vladimir Tarasenko get two of the goals back for the Blues to make the score 3-2 Detroit at the end of the second. David Perron would tie the game up in the third with his second goal of the game. Then Detroit's Tyler Bertuzzi gave the wings the win with his second of the game.
