The Blues and Wings were once one of the best rivalries in the NHL. Until the league decided to move the Red Wings to the Eastern Conference. Since then the Blues have seen the playoffs on a more regular basis then the Red Wings. This game would not have the excitememt of the old rivalry, but it was a fun competitive game to watch. The Blues would take a commanding 3-1 lead out of the second period on two second period goals by forward Ivan Barbashev. The Wings would get within one, early in the third period, on Thomas Vanek's 2nd goal of the game. However, Pat Maroon would make it 4-2 and then Ivan Barbashev would seal the win with an empty net goal, his third of the game, to give the Blues a 5-2 win.
