The Red wings would be playing on the same day they had funeral services for their recently deceased owner Mike Ilitich. Ilitch was famous for starting the very sucessfull Litttle Caesar's pizza franchise. He purchased the Wings in 1982 and eventually purchased the Tigers in 1992. He was 87 years old at the time of his death.
