    Wakelin Award 2025: Lucia Jones 21.11.25 - 12.04.26 Lucia Jones is a Welsh painter. Since graduating from Falmouth University, she has exhibited internationally in solo and group exhibitions including the National Eisteddfod 2025, BEEP Painting Prize 2018 and 2024. She has also been longlisted for several art prizes such as John Moore’s 2020, Jackson’s Art Prize 2022 and 2023. Her work is currently held in private collections in Australia, Austria, Hong Kong, Mexico, UK and USA. Her practice explores memory and self-perception through the constructs of paint and film. Focusing on the female psyche in painted space, she draws inspiration from 50s-90s b-movies, art history, and her own photographs, recontextualising women as anonymised subjects within fractured and fabricated environments.     A Friends of the Glynn Vivian talk with Nigel Prince For AM11, Rasheed has developed two installations, one solo presentation at Glynn Vivian Art Gallery and the other set within the National Museum Cardiff. Combining new work with new versions of continuing bodies of work, both installations play with the physical space, weaving together pieces to probe histories of Black improvisation, play and experimental poetics.     Why does Wales have a red dragon on its flag? This talk explains the origins of the Welsh dragon in early British legend and why it is different from other dragons. Find out how it came to represent the Welsh nation within the British empire, and why it is still used today as a symbol of national pride. Professor Helen Fulton is Chair in Medieval Literature at the University of Bristol.
