Bonas And Beyond

Raoul is a student and reporter from Haiti. I had the wonderful opportunity to speak with him on the Haiti political situation, the economy, life in the border region along the Dominican Republic, as well as what can be done to make life better in the decades to come. Oh and about his desire to be part of the Bonas and Beyond Program on St. Bonaventure campus.

Don Swanz is a lawyer and a law professor at St. Bonaventure University. During the #BonasandBeyond program in October of 2015, he gave this lecture. Bryan McCannon presented on poverty and micro loans at St. Bonaventure University. While his talk focused on Uganda, the themes play well in many poorer nations around the globe. I apologize for the poor quality of the recording. I recorded it on my phone in the lecture hall. MOST of it is pretty good. Opportunity costs are at the heart of this lesson and most of economics. Opportunity costs are based on the idea that you cannot do two things at once. For instance, the cost of working is the leisure time foregone. Put in a more famous way--you cannot have your cake and eat it too.

SBU Chemistry Professor Jerry Godbout teaches on various sources of energy. Conclusion: burning stuff is bad and we will likely eventually run out, but no single solution to our energy needs.

BonasandBeyond students attend Mary Rose Kubal's political scince lecture on immigration in the Walsh Aud on Tuesday.

Well this was fun! It worked perfectly. We spoke of the law of one price and transaction costs. And showed why the law should hold if no transaction costs existed, the law of one price should hold. Good class! Help in Peterson Board Room on SBU campus.

Very good first class! We spoke of the need to be scalable, cloud computing, Google Drive/Docs, and Trello. They even asked for homework!
