  • Episode 202: Socially Distancing and Socially Distant

    15/04/2020 Duração: 20min

One of the results of social distancing is that we are more likely to become socially distant.  Just because you’re practicing social distancing it doesn’t mean you have to be socially distant.  We can still call people, text people, video chat people, engage more deeply with people that we're quarantined with and so on.  The trouble is sometimes, even when we’re not practicing social distancing, we can still be socially distant. One of our #WholeLifeTakeAways this week asked:  How have you intentionally tried to connect during this time to avoid for yourself or relieve another’s feeling of being socially distant? If there was ever a week, or a time to share what Jesus is doing in your life to connect with others who desperately need a word of hope and the assurance that the #Resurrection and the #Salvation it brings is in fact real, and for all, this is it!  Please share with all of us what God has put on your heart to reach out and connect.  We will play your voicemail responses on next week’s podcast, or if

  • Episode 201: Finding Hope

    08/04/2020 Duração: 24min

How do you move towards hope?  In our current world with all that is going on, there can easily be a move to cynicism. Christians are called to be people of faith and faith, exercised well, leads to hope – a change in direction from cynicism. How can we make sure to be people of hope? One of our #WholeLifeTakeAways this week asked:  How confident are you that God can keep you through the days ahead? Please reach out if you have questions or just need someone to bounce things off of.  Finding peace in our lives may be the most important spiritual discipline and joy creator we can gift ourselves, and it will only come in its purest form from Jesus.  As always we'll take your questions, your answers, or comments on something we said, didn’t say, or how you feel about the subject at hand.  You can leave us your insights by using one of the following:■ Text/Voicemail:  407-965-1607■ Email:  podcast@wholelife.church■ WLC Mobile App:  Media Tab/Podcast Banner and Use Text and Email links■ Social Media:  #WholeLifePodc

  • Episode 200: About Sabbath - What Does It Really Mean to Rest?

    01/04/2020 Duração: 26min

We live in uncertain times, and life isn't always what we expect. Even during the turmoil currently invading our lives, is it possible to experience rest? Is a day to stop and put our trust wholly in God exactly what we need right now? One of our #WholeLifeTakeAways this week asked:  What do you think about Sabbath’s role to remind us that we are worth more than what we can produce? So what about you?  Does this idea of our worth being more than we can produce make you as grateful as it does me?  As always we'll take your questions, your answers, or comments on something we said, didn’t say, or how you feel about the subject at hand.  You can leave us your insights by using one of the following:■ Text/Voicemail:  407-965-1607■ Email:  podcast@wholelife.church■ WLC Mobile App:  Media Tab/Podcast Banner and Use Text and Email links■ Social Media:  #WholeLifePodcast/ #WholeLifeTakeAwaysFind all of the #WholeLifeTakeAways in the WLC Mobile App under “This Week” on the WLC Tab and they will be included with their c

  • Episode 199: About Sabbath - What Does “Keeping It Holy” Mean For Us Today?

    25/03/2020 Duração: 28min

It seems clear from the commandment that at least part of what “keeping Sabbath” means has to do with the day being “different” from the other days of the week. Six are designed for working, and one designed for rest. Paul says the law is good, and that we are not “under the law," so how does this relate to Sabbath? One of our #WholeLifeTakeAways this week asked:  How has this time of “social distancing” affected your thoughts about Sabbath? About corporate worship? About fellowship? So, how have these last few weeks changed your thoughts about Sabbath, worship, and fellowship?  As always we'll take your questions, your answers, or comments on something we said, didn’t say, or how you feel about the subject discussed in this week’s episode.  You can leave us your insights by using one of the following:■ Text/Voicemail:  407-965-1607■ Email:  podcast@wholelife.church■ WLC Mobile App:  Media Tab/Podcast Banner and Use Text and Email links■ Social Media:  #WholeLifePodcast/ #WholeLifeTakeAwaysFind Mark Buchanan’s

  • Episode 198: About Sabbath... What Did Jesus Do To Restore A Proper Understanding?

    18/03/2020 Duração: 15min

Jesus broke the Sabbath taboos, but he also never sinned, which means he “kept the Sabbath holy.” How do blessings get turned into curses? The way Jesus related to the Sabbath was to return to its original intent: it was made for people—people weren’t made for it! It fits the New Testament idea that the law is meant to be descriptive of the life of a follower of Jesus, not a means to please or appease God. One of our #WholeLifeTakeAways this week asked: What are some ways that Sabbath has been corrupted over time?As always we'll take your questions, your answers, or comments on something we said, didn’t say, or how you feel about the subject discussed in this week’s episode. • Episode 197: About Sabbath... What Are Its Origins?

    11/03/2020 Duração: 19min

It is often thought that the Sabbath is a Jewish construct beginning when the 10 Commandments were given on Mt. Sinai. It is important to remember that, whatever Sabbath would become in the culture of a fallen world, it preceded the fall. The Sabbath finds its roots in the story of creation, God’s story of what is ideal for his perfect creation in a sinless garden. How will this clear place of Sabbath’s birth change our relationship to Sabbath today? One of our #WholeLifeTakeAways this week asked:  Why do you think God initiated Sabbath before anyone was tired?  As always we'll take your questions, your answers, or comments on something we said, didn’t say, or how you feel about the subject discussed in this week’s episode.  You can leave us your insights by using one of the following:■ Text/Voicemail:  407-965-1607■ Email:  podcast@wholelife.church■ WLC Mobile App:  Media Tab/Podcast Banner and Use Text and Email links■ Social Media:  #WholeLifePodcast/ #WholeLifeTakeAwaysFind all of the #WholeLifeTakeAways i

  • Episode 191: Whole Life Metrics

    29/01/2020 Duração: 14min

  • Episode 190: Whole Life Values

    22/01/2020 Duração: 23min

Ours is a divided culture. We each see things from our own perspective. Too often there are values we live at home, different ones at work or school, and still a different set when we come together to worship.  The Hospital Church has four Values that we believe should oversee our lives 24/7: Love, Acceptance, Forgiveness, and Grace. They are to be with us, enmeshed in our whole life. This week one of our #fhcTAKEAWAYS asked:   Where are you participating in the life of our church family? What do you think about what Andy had to say about member participation? “This value makes it clear that a non-mission driven, non-attending, non-serving, non-giving member is an oxymoron”.  Let us hear your thoughts and we’ll share them on the next podcast!  Use one of the following:■ Text/Voicemail:  407-965-1607■ Email:  podcast@hospitalchurch.org■ FHC Mobile App:  Media Tab/Podcast Banner and Use Text and Email links■ Social Media:  #fhcPODCAST / #fhcTAKEAWAYSHere are the links to the TED Talks referenced in today’s episod

The Hospital Church Strategy is a strategy for friends, family, and strangers, and it encompasses our whole life: Connect with people – Demonstrate compassion – Meet their needs – Win their confidence – and Invite them to join us in following Jesus. It doesn't fit in a box, and it can't be applied to just one part of our life.  This week one of our #fhcTAKEAWAYS asked a very simple but profound question:   Who needs you to love them with specificity?Did you answer “who” needs you to love them this week?  Did the Holy Spirit give you an encounter that was unexpected?  Let us in on what God is doing in your life this week and we’ll share them on the next podcast!  Use one of the following:■ Text/Voicemail:  407-965-1607■ Email:  podcast@hospitalchurch.org■ FHC Mobile App:  Media Tab/Podcast Banner and Use Text and Email links■ Social Media:  #fhcPODCAST / #fhcTAKEAWAYSThank you for listening!  If you’ve enjoyed this episode please share it on social media.  Our show is available on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcas

  • Episode 186: Unwrapping Joy - Salvation

    25/12/2019 Duração: 21min

God doesn’t just reach down into our world and snatch us out. He must be consistent with himself. Humanity has messed up and, in love, that circle of unbroken unity is willing to alter itself for all eternity. The Son will come—the incarnation of God, fully human and fully divine. We are torn by the loss of a loved one from our family, and it is all so very temporal. God is willing to forever be the human and divine. Jesus doesn’t put on humanity like we put on our jacket in cool weather; he becomes one with us. For all eternity, when the Father speaks to the Son, the language is human.  Jesus unites, bridges, and re-opens the eternal intention of God to invite us messed-up humans into his own inner circle of Trinity life. This week one of our #fhcTAKEAWAYS asked the question:  Galatians 5:1 “So Christ has really set us free.  Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.” How can you live in the freedom of Christ being your redeemer? How do you live in Christ’s freedom?

  • Episode 185: Unwrapping Joy - The Counterfeit

    18/12/2019 Duração: 13min

It was a good, perfect, generous plan gone bad.  Here is a side of the story we may not easily associate with Christmas Joy. Have we ever considered the disappointment of God? There had been a battle in heaven. The accusations had been harsh—that God is an inappropriate glory hog, that he is arbitrary and selfish at his core, and that living within borders of his design is unnecessarily restrictive. Before we hear the gospel story, there’s the promise of wisdom and freedom in doing your own thing. That circle of Trinity life that was opened, and that inner circle who longed to invite humanity in, was rejected for a counterfeit. In announcing the results, God gives a glimmer of his plan of hope and coming Christmas Joy.This week one of our #fhcTAKEAWAYS asked the question:  How do you think Mary and Joseph worked through their failed plans? How can we work through ours this Christmas season and show the love of Christ in our actions?  Let us hear your thoughts and we’ll share them on the next podcast!  Use one
