Sinopse

You know those movies that you loved as a kid? What ever happened to them? Maybe you remember grabbing a random VHS cover off the shelves at Blockbuster, but can't quite remember the title. Or perhaps you loved a strangely specific scene from some bizarre film your cousin owned, but you can't really recall the plot. Good news for you. In Throwback Theater, our four hosts will track down and revisit these old movies to answer one question: Does It Hold Up? Each week, a new movie will be reviewed and discussed as mostly sober adults to figure out what we remember, what we liked about it in the first place, and how we feel about it now. Join us in our quest to relive (or maybe destroy) our childhood.

  • Ep. 158 - Master Of Disguise

    17/08/2024 Duração: 01h04min

Summer break is over, losers. We finally got to it, and we're taking a look at 2002's "The Master of Disguise" (yes, we're breaking our 'no post-9/11 movies rule) Starring Dana Carvey, Jennifer Esposito, and Data from Star Trek. In this movie, Pistachio Disguisey (Carvey) learns he has the ability to disguise as anyone and anything and needs to use these new powers to save his father. But, let's be real, this is just Dana Carvey doing a bunch of impressions, loosely tired together with a tired plot. Yes, there's racism. Throwbacktheaterpodcast@gmail.com

    14/06/2024 Duração: 47min

The boys take a look at 1998's "A Simple Wish" starring Martin Short, Kathleen Turner, and Mara Wilson. This movie is so bland that I felt the only way to really represent it was to make the blandest description. throwbacktheaterpodcast@gmail.com

  • Ep. 155 - Baby Geniuses

    30/05/2024 Duração: 01h01min

I'm tired and lazy so here's the first few paragraphs of the movie from Wikipedia. Baby Geniuses is a 1999 American family comedy film directed by Bob Clark and written by Clark and Greg Michael, from a story by Clark, Steven Paul, Francisca Matos, and Robert Grasmere. It stars Kathleen Turner, Christopher Lloyd, Kim Cattrall, Peter MacNicol, and Ruby Dee. The film has the distinction of being the first full-length feature to use computer-generated imagery for the synthesis of human visual speech. 2D warping techniques were used to digitally animate the mouth viseme shapes of the babies which were originally shot with their mouths closed. The viseme shapes were sampled from syllables uttered by the babies on the set. Baby Geniuses was almost universally panned by critics, who lambasted its acting, humor, special effects, writing, and directing, but it grossed $36.5 million worldwide against a production budget of $12 million. In 2004, it was followed by a sequel, Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2, which was a b

    07/12/2023 Duração: 50min

Let's get into the holiday season this year by sitting down and watching a classic, drinking some hot tea, and catching Covid-19. For reference, this is the 1974 made for TV classic, "The Year Without A Santa Claus" by Rankin/Bass, not the 2006 made for TV classic, "The Year Without A Santa Claus." Sorry about the poor "Zoom" quality audio. We tried our best. Much like the 2006 made for TV classic, "The Year With A Santa Claus." throwbacktheaterpodcast@gmail.com

When Charlie gets killed, he goes to dog heaven, only to steal his life's stop watch and return to Earth, where he meets Anne-Marie, a little orphan girl who can talk to animals (who was also kidnapped by dogs??). • Ep. 142 - The Faculty

Ok. Think of an actor from the 90s. That person is in this movie. In this movie, The Faculty, directed by Robert Rodriguez, the faculty of a rough suburban high school get taken over by parasitic aliens, bent on taking over the world. It is up to Frodo and his team of hobbits I think to stop the alien invasion by snorting drugs. If you haven't seen this movie before, stop what you're doing and watch it. throwbacktheaterpodcast@gmail.com
