And his story is fascinating. In 1906, Gaetano “Tony” Gaudio, a young man from Calabria, set out for the American Dream, arriving in the United States with a passion for cinematography, which was just developing in the motion picture industry. Dr. Brooke Stillwell & Dr. Lynne Mouw, Founders, “Life After Kids"
13/11/2024 Duração: 41minHave your kids flown the coup? Do you feel lost, without purpose, and empty without them around? If you do, you’re NOT alone, I’m right there with you, and we invite Dr. Brooke Stillwell and Dr. Lynne Mouw, founders of “Life After Kids” to talk about it and help us find our way back. I remember having little kids and people saying, “it goes fast.” That’s a lie...because it goes by even faster! While I have a full life with friends and work I enjoy, I still find myself looking at the phone hoping to hear from one of my three boys. And it happens a lot. Is it normal? Yup. But not if it consumes us to the point where we can’t enjoy life. And that’s where “Life After Kids” comes in. Drs. Lynne and Brooke help us step into that next level with purpose. It can be small or it can be big, but it’s a necessary step to finding fulfillment without our kids under one roof. Do I secretly wish my kids would all live here, or next door, or even in the next town? Yup. But they don’t, at least not now. So I’m figuring it out

After all, they are our family. Did you ever wonder why dogs don’t live longer? Cathryn addresses that and so much more in her national bestseller. “I’m Still Here” is told from the point of view of an angel dog, or a dog who has passed, revealing to those who loved him that he’s in a safe place, and he’s watching over his human family. It’s a beautiful portrayal of the tenderness and bond that animals share with each of us. Cathryn has had an incredible career, and is the only woman screenwriter in America who had two feature films in world release in 2019, “A Dog’s Way Home,” and “A Dog’s Journey,” the sequel to “A Dog’s Purpose,” all told from a dog’s point of view. Fritz Coleman, 5-time Emmy Award-Winning Stand-Up Comedian & Former Weathercaster, NBC4LA
02/10/2024 Duração: 50minMost of us in LA know Fritz Coleman as the former weathercaster from NBC4 Los Angeles, giving us the sunny forecast of seven sun-balls for the week ahead. But did you know this five-time Emmy winner started out as a comic, got his first stint in weather by chance, was on the Tonight Show eight times, and has opened for legends like Ray Charles, George Benson, Jay Leno, and Debbie Reynolds? And now, he’s starring in his own one-man show, “Unassisted Living,” available on Tubi and playing at the infamous Portal Theater in North Hollywood. And it’s hilarious! The show is a friendly look at retirement, baby-boom style, and talks about everything from back pain to sex. Fritz talks about his own life, from childhood to divorce and everything in between. It’s funny, clever, and it left me wanting more from Fritz, to learn about the man behind the happy weather talk. And there’s a lot. He’s a student of comedy, and grew up watching and learning from the greats. And when his uncle took him to a George Carlin concert

18/09/2024 Duração: 45minPlease welcome to our show a voice you know well, award-winning newscaster @DebraMark from @KFIam640’s @JohnKobyltShow, joining us today not to tell someone else’s story, but her own. It’s a very personal story, one she wants to share for #SuicidePreventionMonth. Most of us who know Debra would describe her as cheerful and always positive. She grew up in the Valley, her parents divorced when she was young, and she worked hard to make it in the news business. She is also married with two grown children. But twenty years ago, her life came to a hault when she got an email from her mother, saying Debra and everyone in the family would be better off without her. That was the last time she ever heard from her mom. In fact, it was Debra who found her mother. The story she tells is terribly sad and tragic, because no one saw it coming. So she wants to shine a spotlight on this serious mental health issue for anyone else out there going through something similar, or thinking about it. Please join us on this special a

Scott Ryan, Author, Designer, Publisher
18/09/2024 Duração: 33minPublisher and author Scott Ryan is like Google when it comes to TV and film. He knows the genres intimately, and has written niche books about everything from Letterman to Streisand. Today, he joins us to discuss his latest book, “The Last Days Of Cinema,” which is a brilliant look at cinema in the 90’s and the impact those films had on pop culture at the time and in retrospect, today. Scott selected twenty-five films to for his book from thousands made in the 1990’s, from Goodfellas to Magnolia and so many others classics, and he was very strategic in his selection. He’s analyzed how films of the 90s shaped our culture, which was the last decade before social media took over and influenced millions. Having just returned from the #VeniceFilmFestival, I saw some magnificent films, but I’ll admit there’s a difference between films today and 30 years ago. I’ll ask him about that, perhaps it’s because of streaming, with less people collectively going to the movies? Scott has written many books including “Last Day

11/09/2024 Duração: 46minPlease welcome to our show David Kessler, a leading expert on grief and loss, who will be discussing the different stages of grief along with his book, “Finding Meaning: The Sixth Stage of Grief.” Like most people, I’ve had my fair share of grief, and it rocked me in way I could barely recognize myself. I can say I wish I was introduced to David sooner, but everything has a place and time. David’s personal experience as a child witnessing a mass shooting while his mother was dying undoubtedly had a profound effect on him. He went on to teach physicians, police officers, and first responders about grief and how to best handle grief. But he wasn’t prepared for what followed, which was the untimely death of his 21-year-old son. That profound grief prompted him to write his latest book, “Finding Meaning,” which has helped thousands do the same. Also, grief extends beyond death. It includes the loss of a relationship, job, or something of meaning that extends to loss. He will talk about that, too. Please join me i

07/08/2024 Duração: 46minAuthor, playwright, performer, and TEDx speaker Susan Lieu joins us to talk about her tell-all book, “The Manicurist’s Daughter,” along with her one-woman theatrical show, 140 Pounds: How Beauty Killed My Mother, which has been on a 10-city sold out national tour. About Susan: Her family are refugees from the Vietnam War, escaping to California in the 1980s after five failed attempts. Her mother successfully opened two nail salons, and life seemed to be going just fine, until one day when Susan was 11. Her mother died suddenly from a botched tummy tuck, with little mention of the incident even at her funeral. So, for the next twenty years, Susan looked for answers about what happened, and also why her mother felt the need to change her body. Did she struggle with body image issues? Was it pressure? Susan finally uncovered some disturbing facts, and which we will talk with her about, as well as the impossible ideal of beauty. Ilaria Borrelli, Filmmaker, Women’s Rights Activist, Mother.
29/05/2024 Duração: 39minPlease welcome to our show the immensely talented Italian director and actress, Ilaria Borrelli, who is also a human rights activist. In fact, much of Ilaria’s activism is reflected in her work, often with an emphasis on the rights of woman and young girls. I met Ilaria at the Italian Cultural Institute in Los Angeles, when she was speaking about her film, “The Goat,” about an 11-year-old pregnant orphan forced into marriage in her small Ethiopian village, only to escape with her goat, which provides nourishment, companionship, and even friendship throughout her difficult journey to find her her father, and ultimately peace. The film stars Mira Sorvino and John Savage, along with young Egyptian Tik Tok star, Jessica Hosam. Ilaria has been behind some of the most prolific films throughout her career, including “Life Is Beautiful,” and “A Girl from the Brothel,” among others. We will talk with her about her adventures filming in often dangerous condition, her life’s work as an actress and eventually behind the
