  • Genesis 37:1-11 – Strangers in a Foreign Land (includes communion)

    01/03/2020 Duração: 01h01min

In our study today, when Jacob arrives in the Promised Land, we are told that he “dwelt” there. The word “dwelt” means he “settled” or “squatted” there. Unlike his fathers before him, Jacob saw Hebron as his permanent home. As we move on in our study in Genesis, we are going to see how God changed Jacob’s mindset from that of a citizen of this world to that of a stranger living in a foreign land. And the process He takes him through is important to observe because in many ways it mirrors the things the Lord does in our lives to bring us to a place to where we too see ourselves as strangers and pilgrims in this world and not squatters. George

You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, And praise the name of the Lord your God.” God was telling Israel that even though they were being judged, in the near future He was going to give them a fresh start. In today’s lesson we are going to look at how Jacob, after living almost 30 years outside of the Promised Land, is going to finally returns home, and the Lord is going to give him a fresh start. The Lord is the God of fresh starts, and no matter how far we have fallen, He desires to pick us up and give us a fresh start! George

  • Genesis 35:1-15 – God’s Answer to a Backslider’s Prayer

    17/02/2020 Duração: 56min

Someone once said that the way to avoid backsliding is to stay off the slopes. But the problem is, we can’t avoid the slopes of life—especially if we are walking through this world as Christians. Life is an uphill battle and so we are either going forward or we are backsliding. In today’s story we’ll take a look at the biblical character named Jacob, and we will see how God answers this backslider’s prayer and gets him back on his feet moving forward again. This is an important study with some great application, because all of us at times are going to backslide in our Christian walk and are going to need to know how to get going forward again. George

  • Genesis 34 – To Assimilate or Not Assimilate (includes communion)

    02/02/2020 Duração: 58min

Back in the mid 1900’s Albert Bramley penned these words in his famous hymn This World Is Not My Home: This world is not my home, I’m just a passing through My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue The angels beckon me from heaven’s open door And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore! Bramley here gives us a vivid description of how all believers should feel as we live our lives on this earth. We should live as pilgrims passing through life and not as settlers looking to be assimilated into the culture in which live. In today’s lesson, Jacob will put his family in a position where they are danger of being assimilated into the pagan culture of Shechem. God doesn’t allow it to happen, but if He had, there would be no such thing as Israel, and no such thing as a Jewish Messiah. George

  • Genesis 33 – Identity Crisis

    26/01/2020 Duração: 49min

The celebrated German philosopher Schleiermacher was once sitting alone on a park bench, and a policeman thinking he was a vagrant approached him and asked him, “Who are you?” Schleirermacher answered sadly, “I wish I knew.” No doubt the famous philosopher was suffering from what is known as an “identity crisis.” In today’s lesson, we will learn about the “identity crisis” that the great patriarch Jacob experienced in his life, especially after he become Israel. It’s a crisis all of […]

Samuel Chadwick once wrote, “Prevailing prayer is what turns ordinary mortals into men of power. It brings power. It brings fire. It brings rain. It brings life. It brings God!” In today’s lesson in Genesis 32, we will get a great picture of just how to prevail with God in prayer in the form of a wrestling match that unfolds between Jacob and the Angel of the Lord. George

  • Genesis 32:1-8 – Camp of Angels

    13/01/2020 Duração: 49min

Kamand Kojouiri in his book The Eternal Dance penned these words by the main character when he encountered an angel: “I couldn’t have dreamed you into existence because I didn’t even know I needed you. You must have been sent to me.” I’m sure Jacob had similar thoughts when he encountered a camp of angels as he was about to return into the Promised Land. The angels he saw weren’t some beings he just dreamed up; they were sent to […]

  • Genesis 31:22-55 – Stubborn Disobedience (includes Communion)

    05/01/2020 Duração: 58min

Alexander Maclaren referred to unbelief as “the mother of disobedience.” That’s why all unbelievers wind up being rebels who eventually go off the pages of history and wind up in hell. Laban, the main character of today’s study in Genesis 31, in spite of all the evidence given to him to the contrary, refused to come to the Lord, but instead went right on clinging to his pagan gods. And so this is the last we will see of him […]

  • Psalm 11 – The State of the Union: The New Year 2020

    30/12/2019 Duração: 49min

John Adams had this to say about the future of democracies like ours: Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There was never a democracy yet that did not commit suicide.” His words almost sound like a State of the Union address for the year 2020. Because the United States seems to being doing just that: committing suicide. As we speak, the very foundations of this great nation are being destroyed from within. So what […]
