Why the Grinch Stole Christmas with Grant Wenburg
23/12/2020 Duração: 04minHave you ever wondered why the Grinch stole Christmas? Our son’s 5th grade teacher, Mrs. Brennan, posed this question to kids in the class and asked them to write a persuasive essay about why they believe the Grinch is either evil or misunderstood. On the Voice of Influence podcast one of the key questions we explore is why are people the way they are? How can we motivate others who may be closed off to us? Though Grant’s essay doesn’t go on to suggest how to approach the Grinch, it does give one food for thought. Perhaps there is a physiological or psychological reason for the Grinches among us. Here is Grant Wenburg with his essay, “A Small Heart.”

163: Is Your Tone Influential?
20/10/2020 Duração: 17minA few episodes ago, we talked about why it’s important to simplify your expertise so that people who don’t share your knowledge of a subject can care about what you have to say. In this episode, I share how my 13-year-old daughter’s hatred for people who talk down to her because of her age is a perfect lesson in how to talk to your audience, how talking down to your audience is disrespectful to them, why you should use your “normal” voice when talking to your audience, the reasons I sometimes don’t talk in my normal voice, why your tone is just as important as your words, and more. 160: Break Free from Who You Think You Should Be
29/09/2020 Duração: 21minAfter the three previous three episodes about change, I wanted to take some time to think through together what the psychology behind behavioral change means for you individually and how you can process paradigm shifts and helps others process them as well. 159: Another Look at the Psychology Behind Changing Your Mind
22/09/2020 Duração: 20minWe’ve talked this month about the fact that change challenges us. As part of this theme, I had a conversation with Dr. Espen Klausen last week about the psychology behind how people change. In that conversation, Dr. Klausen described some of the differences between assimilation, which he says is bringing new ideas into old schemas, and accommodation, which he says involves significant paradigm shifts. This week, Roseanne Moore is on the show to help me dive deeper into the concepts of assimilation and accommodation and how they can help us embrace change. In this episode, we discuss some practical examples of assimilation and accommodation, how to know if you need to make a major paradigm shift or if the situation really calls for smaller changes, why it’s crucial for leaders to focus on personal growth if want those around us to do the same, what leaders can do to promote a healthy growth environment, the importance of taking care of your physical and mental well-being if you want to grow and change, the val
