  • Year of the Cheetah: Priscilla Rich in The Silver Age

    11/11/2020 Duração: 32min

Frank returns after a mere five months off to post an actual second episode in the same “Year of the Cheetah,” featuring another guest cameo from Wonder Woman: Warrior for Peace podcast’s Angela! The 2019 release of Wonder Woman 1984 is looking more like 2021, so we guess Warner Brothers plans to hold out until we at least finish covering the appearances of the original incarnation of the Cheetah. Gee, we hope it doesn’t hurt their pocket money in the meantime. Our coverage includes Priscilla Rich’s two published stories set on Earth-One during the Silver Age of Comics, Wonder Woman #160 & 166…We don’t have a Magic Sphere, so if you want to communicate with us about the podcast…Tweet host Diabolu Frank directly, or commune with @rolledspine as a group. • Year of the Cheetah: Priscilla Rich in The Golden Age

    18/06/2020 Duração: 49min

Frank returns after another year & a half’s sabbatical to find… the Wonder Woman: Warrior for Peace podcast had returned from its own year of absence. To celebrate our both running again, Angela has an opening cameo to foreshadow her continuing appearances in a series of Cheetah-centric episodes to tide you over while Wonder Woman 1984 keeps being delayed. I bet Warner Brothers wish they’d just released the sequel back in November of 2019 as originally planned. But we’re more interested in prequels today, as we travel back to the earliest stories of the original incarnation of the Cheetah. We cover every one of Priscilla Rich’s published Golden Age stories set on Earth-Two, including Sensation Comics #22 & 36, Wonder Woman #6, 28, 196, & 230, Comic Cavalcade #11, Crisis on Infinite Earths #5 & 9, and DC Special #3. Most especially, we survey the Wonder Woman newspaper strip from November 20, 1944-March 30,1945, the most exhaustive and involved version of the initial Cheetah saga.We don’t have

Pekita Trotamundos joins Frank to discuss Angela Robinson’s new film about Wonder Woman creator William Moulton Marston, his wife Elizabeth, and their extended family member Olive Byrne (as portrayed by Luke Evans, Rebecca Hall & Bella Heathcote.) • Noble Pyrates All

    21/09/2017 Duração: 44min

This episode, Frank covers the first major arc of the William Messner-Loebs run, “Exile in Space,” which ran in Wonder Woman vol. 2 (1987 series) #66-71 (1992-1993.) Since nobody actually refers to the “Space Pirates” story by that name, we’ll use the story title from #69 instead. This is one of Frank’s favorite legends of the Amazing Amazon, featuring art by Paris Cullins and a host of inkers, with an especially epic series of Brian Bolland covers. This time, the show will run without commercial interruption. We don’t have a Magic Sphere, so if you want to communicate with us about the podcast…Tweet host Diabolu Frank directly, or commune with @rolledspine as a group.Email DiaboluIf the main Diana Prince as the New Wonder Woman blog isn’t your thing, try the umbrella Rolled Spine Podcasts.

  • Whom Gods Destroy featuring Chris Claremont

    17/08/2017 Duração: 34min

This episode, we look at a pair of the very few Elseworlds out-of-continuity “imaginary stories” with Wonder Woman as a billed star. First we adapt previous coverage of 2003’s The Blue Amazon one-shot special by Randy & Jean-Marc Lofficier with art by Ted McKeever. The core of the episode is a fresh look at 1996’s Superman/Wonder Woman: Whom Gods Destroy prestige format 4-issue mini-series by Chris Claremont, Dusty Abell and Drew Geraci. As a special bonus, coverage includes excerpts from a 2016 interview with the writer discussing this project. This episode’s non-paying advertiser:Satin Tights: A Wonder Woman Podcast, covering the 1970s TV shows.

Finally, we’re talking about the William Messner-Loebs run on Wonder Woman, the host’s favorite series of Amazing Amazon adventures! Unfortunately, the transition out of George Pérez’s long and well regarded run isn’t the smoothest. We chart some of the bumps along the way from War of the Gods to Wonder Woman Special #1 & Wonder Woman (Vol. 2) #63. • Justice League Action upon The Transconsciousness Articulator

    03/03/2017 Duração: 27min

This time we revisit the Joe Kelly/ChrisCross issues of JLA #s 83 (September, 2003) and 90 (January, 2004) covering fantasy stories involving the World’s Finest Trinity versus George Bush President Lex Luthor, as well as Diana and Bruce considering the possibility of a romantic relationship. It’s supposed to be a Martian device facilitating this, but it sure sounds like more of a Paradise Island or Kryptonian sort of thing. Then, Frank dishes on the first ten episodes of the new Cartoon Network show Justice League Action. Finally, your comments are addressed, plus we run promos for Justice League Universe Podcast, The All-Star Comics Review Podcast, and the latest podcast about Wonder Woman, Lasso of Truth (not to be confused with the long running non-Amazonian podcast of nearly the same name.)We don’t have a Magic Sphere, so if you want to communicate with us about the podcast…Tweet host Diabolu Frank directly, or commune with @rolledspine as a group.Email DiaboluIf the main Diana Prince as the New Wonder Wo

  • The Mystery of Nubia

    07/02/2017 Duração: 33min

By all indications, 2017 needs a podcast dedicated to Queen Hippolyta’s “second,” “other,” “dark” daughter who debuted on November 7, 1972 in Wonder Woman #204, so we’re “Introducing Nubia!” The soul sister of the Amazing Amazon went on to appearances in Wonder Woman #205-206, including a solo back-up story, plus cameos in Supergirl #9 and The Super Friends #25 before vanishing from comics entirely for twenty years (and actually closer to a quarter century if you discount a single page of one of those comics.) Despite barely escaping 1973 in comics, Nubia managed to make appearances on television and in toy form when that was an extremely rare accomplishment, and her origin has a massive impact on Wonder Woman’s own. Nubia was a contender, and we argue that she still matters 45 years later on this episode!Nubia is one of the least heralded but most valuable creations of Robert Kanigher, and possibly his single most important contribution across twenty years as a writer/editor of the Amazing Amazon (depending

This episode, Frank offers a rebuttal to Brigit McCone’s “Unpopular Opinions” week article for the site B**** Flicks, which took the character of Wonder Woman to task for the “revolutionary banalities” of her “male-authored feminism,” especially within the context of the 1970s TV show.

  • The Second Coming of Robert Kanigher

    21/11/2016 Duração: 28min

This episode we look at the brief return of writer/editor Robert Kanigher to the Wonder Woman series following a campaign by Gloria Steinem to return the Amazing Amazon to her roots. Kanigher decided what that meant was that he could recycle his own decades old scripts, so we get to simultaneously cover 1973's Wonder Woman #207-208, but also the original presentations from Wonder Woman #37 (September-October 1949) #33 (January-February 1949) and #55 (September-October 1952) of "The Riddle Of The Chinese Mummy Case!" "The Four Dooms" and "The Chessmen of Doom" by Robert Kanigher, Harry G. October 25, 2016 marks the seventy-fifth anniversary of the release date for All-American Publications' All Star Comics #8, which featured the story "Introducing Wonder Woman" by her creators William Moulton Marston and Harry G. • A Final Adventure of Wonder Woman (1985)

    28/09/2016 Duração: 44min

This episode finally, irrevocably breaks from its previous incarnation as a podcast! A seasonal/bi-annual show no more! No longer only coming out only when an issue of Wonder Woman ’77 corresponds with the episode number! This edition, we cover an entire story arc, encompassing the entire (very brief) run of Wonder Woman’s first female writer, Mindy Newell! That’s “Tropidor Heat” & “A World in Chaos!” & ” To Everything a Season…” from Wonder Woman #326-328 (July-December, 1985) plus the concluding 48-page story of the original volume, “Of Gods and Men,” written by Gerry Conway! Don Heck draws most of this swan song to the Pre-Crisis Amazing Amazon, with a little help from Pablo Marcos. We also read excerpts from magazine articles and letters columns contemporaneous to the end of this era, and look forward to the next, which signals the changes coming to this show in celebration of the 75th anniversary year!In the meantime, do check out Wonder Woman: Warrior for Peace: A podcast that explores the histo
