STNH 8: Monica Kade – How I ended the battle with my body
12/02/2019 Duração: 45minThis episode comes with a trigger warning – we will be talking about topics like anorexia, bulimia and mental health. Monica Kade is a writer and podcaster who has been featured in some major websites and publications. But her most recent achievement is a much more personal affair. You see, she has recently released a book that is all about her fight with poor body image, self-judgement, and eating disorders. Tune into this episode to hear about: Why eating disorders are even more of a problem than we think in Australia How eating disorders can start at a very young age How Monica overcame both anorexia and bulimia How she “came out” to her friends about her illness, and how she asked for help Why connection was crucial to healing How she learned to love her own body, no matter what The influence of media, culture and Instagram on women’s body image How to tell when a diet is healthy, or if it’s becoming dangerous Her message for mums of teenage girls, or anyone with a loved one going through this This is a

STNH 7: Sharon Collon – ADD/ADHD and The Functional Family
05/02/2019 Duração: 42minMeet Sharon Collon – she’s been a naturopathic client of mine for quite some time. I’ve watched her go through a lot with her own health issues whilst also caring for her family. But she’s been thrown a few extra challenges. You see, a couple of the members of her household have ADHD. Like any good mum, she tried everything under the sun to help her family, including the GAPS diet, wholefoods, paleo, the RPAH diet, and countless doctors and health practitioners. But what she ended up finding worked the best was developing systems and routines in her household that created calmness and eased overwhelm. “I saw the statistics that they were four times more likely to commit crime, commit suicide, end up in jail or become an addict, and there was just no way that I was going to let that happen to my beautiful little boy.” So I’ve got her on the show to give you a different perspective on helping your anxious or sensitive kids (and maybe even your anxious and sensitive partners/husbands!). In this episode, we discu

STNH 6: Kristy-Lee Rackham – My Holistic Nurse
29/01/2019 Duração: 01h06minMeet Kristy-Lee Rackham – a holistic Registered Nurse based in the Noosa Shire in Queensland. She’s also an Energy Coach and multi-modality practitioner who helps people get lasting relief from stress, anxiety and chronic pain without medication. Kristy-Lee’s superpower is being able to talk about both science and energy medicine in equal amounts, without the two paradigms contradicting each other. I love that. “By the time I got to graduation, I was certain that the medical system wasn’t set up to assist people with serious and chronic long term illness.” She’s been through Postnatal Depression and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, so she also has a first hand insight on how it feels to not only be unwell and out of balance, but to have an invisible illness that others can’t see or sometimes even understand. She also comes from a corporate background as an advertising executive, so she knows what it’s like to be a driven, busy, stressed out women. “I had my day job where I had this front to the world, where ev

STNH 5: Alysha Habgood – Breast Implant Illness
22/01/2019 Duração: 01h01minMeet Alysha Habgood, a Sydney naturopath who recently had her breast implants removed due to Breast Implant Illness (BII). With thousands of breast augmentation surgeries being performed in Australia (and hundreds of thousands more around the world) each year, there is a growing concern that many of the implants are becoming toxic. Thousands of women are reporting autoimmune-like symptoms, including joint pain, inflammation, thyroid issues, hormonal imbalances, and debilitating fatigue. Meanwhile, some medical practitioners (and breast implant producers) are holding fast and saying that these issues are NOT caused by the implants… but that tide is turning. Listen to Alysha’s story and decide for yourself. “Four months after surgery I started to experience some symptoms… and the worst one was chronic fatigue.” In this podcast, we chat about: Signs and symptoms of Breast Implant Illness Why the implants trigger an immune response in the body What to do if you suspect you have BII How to test for BII Key things

STNH 3: Chara Caruthers – Eat Like You Love Yourself
08/01/2019 Duração: 45minChara Caruthers has been on my podcast before. You may remember her from episode 21 of Shiny Healthy You when we spoke about Ayurveda, eating for your dosha (or body type), and detoxification. Chara is a yoga teacher, yoga therapist, Ayurvedic practitioner, recipe developer, all round great cook, and a very good friend of mine. I’ve got her back in because there’s so much more to this woman, so one episode was never going to be enough. Since our last interview she’s been busy in the kitchen, creating an exciting recipe book called Eat Like You Love Yourself. (Can you believe no one has thought of this title before?) In this episode, we chat about: Food as medicine Eating for the seasons Self love and self care How your state of mind affects your overall health Eating for different states of mind (to reduce overwhelm and increase grounding) Green smoothies – are they ok or not? STNH 2: Jules Galloway (Wellbeing Weekly) – On adrenal fatigue, burnout, and self care
08/01/2019 Duração: 01h10minThis week we’re lucky enough to have been gifted a bonus episode. A while back, I was interviewed by Michelle Kerr from Wellbeing Weekly, and it was so much fun! She has generously offered to let me share the episode on my own podcast feed. In this episode I share parts of my own health journey – Find out why living a “work hard, play hard” lifestyle led to burnout, why taking loads of herbs and supplements didn’t help, and how I discovered some quirky health issues that were the key to getting better. Listen to the story of my road to recovery, and what I learned along the way. We also cover the following topics: What is adrenal fatigue/adrenal dysfunction? The signs and symptoms of adrenal dysfunction and burnout. What are the underlying issues that can contribute to adrenal issues? Why self-care is so much more than just a pedicure (and some better ways to relax and switch off). Why so many driven, successful women end up with adrenal fatigue and health issues. Functional pathology testing for adrenal fat

SHY 72: Scott Gooding and Neera Scott – Change your mindset, change your life
01/08/2018 Duração: 39minChanging our habits – have we been doing it all wrong? What if, instead about trying to force ourselves to adopt a new diet, a new lifestyle, or a new fitness regime, we simply just observed what was there in our minds, without judgement? This podcast deals with the crucial first step that many of us have missed… and that’s mindfulness. And… in this episode, you get a 2-for-1 deal… 2 guests that is. You may remember Scott Gooding from Episode 60, where we talked about making real food simple, fun, sexy and affordable. He’s a passionate real food cook, a former MKR finalist, and an all round top bloke. He’s just brought out a new health program that doesn’t just focus on diet and exercise (although they’re a big part of it), but he’s also included modules on super important topics like mindset, motivation and psychology. Neera Scott is also involved in this program as Scott’s mindfulness mentor. She is a passionate yoga teacher, meditation instructor, and her superpower is taking Eastern philosophy concepts an

SHY 71: Maz Compton – On going sober in a party hard world
17/07/2018 Duração: 48minToday’s guest has worn several awesome hats in her life. You may know her from her days as an entertainment reporter and VJ for MTV. Or you may recognise her voice from her time on 2Day FM as a breakfast show presenter. But there’s more to this woman than meets the eye. Her most recent achievement, a book with the title The Social Rebellion, takes you through her struggle with alcohol and the way she changed her relationship with drinking. No mean feat when you think about the industry she worked in! Listen as we delve into: Her time on MTV and the lifestyle that followed The pressures of drinking to fit in Why associating drinking with relaxation is dangerous How losing a close friend became the catalyst for changing her life Navigating the tricky process of giving up Why being asked if she was pregnant was a lightbulb moment for self care How to deal with people who say you’re no fun anymore (and other negative comments!) “It is complete insanity for someone else to have an issue with something that you’r

03/07/2018 Duração: 39minIf you’ve been following me for a while on social media, you may have noticed that I take off to Fiji 4 times a year to work on a nutrition project. In this episode, follow me to Fiji where we conduct over 800 health checks on local resort workers, villages, and communities in need. Fiji has just been named the top country in the world for Type 2 diabetes, an honour that no one ever wants to receive. So there’s lots of work to do to help these people become healthier! Along with Involvement Volunteers International (IVI), I’ve been heading up a team of nutritionists, naturopaths, dieticians, nurse

SHY 69: Amy Mingin – Natural Contraception
12/06/2018 Duração: 48minIn a rather hilarious coincidence, today’s topic is the perfect segue after talking about sex for the last three episodes. You see, we are going to be talking about natural contraception. All too often I have patients come to me, super confused as to which method of contraception to choose. The Pill has been linked to blood clots, stroke, high blood pressure and even some cancers. IUDs are invasive and hard to remove, and they either secrete copper or hormones, and barrier methods… well… let’s face it, they’re kinda annoying. But what if I told you that you have other options? My special guest is here to help us navigate that. Meet Amy Mingin – a naturopath based on the Gold Coast with a special interest in women’s hormonal health. She even runs workshops on natural contraception. In order to provide a balanced look at this topic, we look at the pros and cons of the most common contraceptives, including the pill, IUDs, Implanon, barrier methods and more. You will learn what side effects to look for, and the e

Well, let’s just say that it’s a special kind of massage designed to totally awaken your sexual energy… with extraordinary results. SHY 67: Isiah McKimmie – Sex, intimacy and better relationships
15/05/2018 Duração: 44minThis episode comes with a friendly warning. This podcast covers some rather adult content (so you might not want to play it out loud with your kids in the car!). Welcome to the 2nd episode in what has been jokingly labelled my 3 part Vag series. That’s right, we will be discussing all things sexual health – you will find out what’s normal, what’s not normal, and how to improve the health of your lady parts… and in this case, your sex life. Meet sexologist Isiah McKimmie. She believes in a world of meaningful connection, powerful intimacy and loving sex (sounds awesome, am I right?). SHY 66: Moira Bradfield – How to have a healthy vagina
01/05/2018 Duração: 47minAll too often, we’re soooo busy dealing with things like poor energy levels, crappy immune systems, dodgy thyroids and worn out adrenals, that we neglect a very important part of our health… and that’s our sexual health, and the wellness of our lady parts “down there.” But this week we’re going to change all that. Welcome to the first in a 3 part holistic sexual health series. Yep, for the next 3 episodes, we will be tackling the taboo topics that you’ve been dying to know about, but were too embarrassed to ask. So just a heads up: We’ll be talking about some rather adult themes, so maybe don’t play these episodes out loud with little kids in the car ? Meet Moira Bradfield. She’s a naturopath specialising in vaginas. Yep, for real. She actually working towards her PhD on the topic of the vaginal microbiome (that’s the balance of good and bad bacteria). SHY 64: Kym Campbell – On PCOS, infertility and the natural way to balance hormones
03/04/2018 Duração: 50minMeet Kym Campbell. She has a personal story to share that (unfortunately) is bound to resonate with many women. You see, she dearly wanted to have children, but struggled for years with infertility. She was eventually diagnosed with a condition called PCOS (which stands for polycystic ovarian syndrome), which makes it very difficult for women to fall pregnant. After modern medicine couldn’t provide a cure, she embarked on a mission to do whatever she could to become healthier, naturally – and the biggest change she made was to her diet, with stunning results. “It was a huge pivot in my life.” She now helps other women with infertility to walk the same path back to health. In this episode we chat about: • What PCOS is, and why we develop it • The symptoms to look out for if you suspect you have PCOS • Why you need to address PCOS, even if you’re not planning to have a baby • “Lean PCOS” and why you don’t need to gain weight in order to have this disorder • Conventional medicine, IVF, and why the stan

SHY 63: Dr Terry Wahls – The Wahls Protocol for Autoimmune Diseases
20/03/2018 Duração: 50minSometimes I still pinch myself that I get to chat with the people that I really look up to in the industry, and better still, that I get to call it work. This interview has to be one of my all time favourites, so I hope you enjoy it too. Meet Dr Terry Wahls. In 2000 she was diagnosed with MS, after a period in her life when she was super busy. By 2007 her condition had deteriorated to the point where she was unable to sit up on her own, she needed a wheelchair to move around, and she was suffering from intense brain fog. The prognosis was bleak and even the best that conventional medicine had to offer did not give her the relief she needed. So she started researching, looking for answers outside the box. Even though she was a trained medical practitioner, she was desperate and willing to try just about anything. After embarking upon a paleo diet that was specifically modified to maximise the nutrients needed to fight autoimmune disease, a miracle happened. Her illness started to reverse. Dr Wahls was told tha

SHY 62: Lauren Verona – On yoga, self-care, and healing from burnout
06/03/2018 Duração: 54minMeet Lauren Verona – an amazing yoga teacher, business woman, loving mum… and very wise woman indeed. She learned her life lessons at a young age – after burning out in a PR job at age 25, she turned to yoga to help deal with the stress and anxiety of her fast-paced “work hard, party hard” lifestyle. She now lives on the Sunshine Coast and owns several yoga studios, including one that’s 100% online! In this episode we chat about: • How to stop turning the “bitch volume” up in your life • The importance of breathing properly • How to incorporate yoga into everyday life (hint: it’s not all about the poses!) • The challenging art of surrender and letting go (and are we actually doing it?) • How to live a more grounded life • Why accountability and connection is key in any busy woman’s yoga practice We also chat about self care, and why Lauren took the word “busy” out of her vocab. “When you fill yourself up, you can go out and serve others.” Want to connect with Lauren?
