  • Houston Texans Podcast: Emperor For Another Day

    04/03/2020 Duração: 01h18min

Teams have until Thursday March 5th to use their franchise and transition tags. Teams can begin negotiation with players starting on March 16th. On March 18th, free agency officially begins. The concrete has cured. It's now time to look at the players the Texans should pursue on March 16th. This is part two of a two part offseason preview. In part one Matt and BFD discuss pre-agency, and in part two, they discuss free agency. Topics in this episode include: if the Texans should have traded for A.J. Bouye, big name big contract free agents the Texans' should improve, which cornerback options make sense for them, which running back they should use up, how they should address the Laremy Tunsil and Deshaun Watson extensions, and, of course, your listener questions. • Houston Texans Podcast: Emperor For A Day

    24/02/2020 Duração: 59min

For the youths March 13th is about taking shirt offs and making the pilgrimage to those sinful destinations down south. For NFL fans this time of year is about free agency, contracts, bonuses, and dead money. But before that, teams have to evaluate internally, decide how they want to clear cap space, and which unrestricted free agents they want to keep around. This is part one of a two part offseason preview. In part one Matt and BFD discuss pre-agency, and in part two, coming next summer, they discuss free agency. Topics in this episode include: if 2019 is something to build on, where the Texans need to improve, how much we would give Darren Fells, Carlos Hyde, and others; and which current players we would release to create additional cap space. It’s the disco before the breakdown. And while you’re at it, give it a five star review and subscribe below. You can subscribe/listen on iTunes here. You can subscribe/listen on Android/Google here. • Houston Texans Podcast: 2019 Houston Texans Rookie Review Part Two

    20/02/2020 Duração: 42min

The Houston Texans 2019 draft class paid dividends for the team in 2019. Tytus Howard and Max Scharping were primary starters along the offensive line. Charles Omenihu added interior pass rushing production. Cullen Gillaspia was a battle fightin' special teams hero. Well, almost all of it. Lonnie Johnson Jr. was one of the worst cornerbacks in the league. Kahale Warring was too hot and too much of a CHAD for Bill O'Brien. And Xavier Crawford is no longer on the team. In part two of our breakdown ofthe Texans 2019 draft class we discuss if Warring will ever have an impact on the Texans and how he could if he ever does, the surprise pass rushing production from Omenihu and what he can do to take the next step forward, if Crawford would look better as a Seattle Dragon, a Calgary Stampeder, or as a San Antonio Defender, and whether or not Gillaspia can contribute on the offensive side of the ball. • Houston Texans Podcast: Riding The Quarterback Carousel

    17/02/2020 Duração: 01h08min

It’s time to hop on the hippopotamus, or the tiger, or the frog, or the rabbit, or the ostrich, or the camel, or in this case, Philip Rivers, or Tom Brady, Cam Newton, or Andy Dalton, or Teddy Bridgewater, and ride the carousel. Round and round we go. In this episode my good friend Taylor and I sit down and try to figure out where the quarterbacks will land for the 2020 NFL season. Will Tom Brady go to Dallas and leave Dak Prescott searching for his $35 million somewhere else? Is Philip Rivers cooked, and where is he going to get roasted at? Can Lasik surgery solve Jameis Winston’s eyesight and have him setting his sights on a Lombardi in Indianapolis? Honestly, I have no idea. None of this makes any sense. I don’t even know who I am anymore. Let’s start the show. And while you’re at it, give it a five star review and subscribe below. You can subscribe/listen on iTunes here. • Discussing Jadeveon Clowney With The Field Gulls Podcast

    14/02/2020 Duração: 04min

The Seattle Seahawks are in a similar position the Houston Texans were in last season. The major difference is Seattle can’t franchise tag Clowney and limit his ability to take off and play somewhere else. That being said, Seattle can choose to keep Clowney around long-term, or do what Houston did, and choose to let him play elsewhere. To discuss these things I went on the Field Gulls podcast, the Seattle Seahawks SB Nation site, to discuss the Texans decision to trade Clowney, how the trade worked out for Houston, his performance last season, and whether or not Seattle should extend him. • Houston Texans Podcast: 2019 Texans Season Awards

    11/02/2020 Duração: 01h06min

The 2019 Houston Texans season review keeps on going, going, going. Yesterday the Texans season awards was written and published, today, it’s the podcast version with the one and only BigFatDrunk. In this episode BFD and I ponder about how great Deshaun Watson would be in June Jones’s Houston Roughnecks offense, and then, hand out cute fun awards, like Most Likely To Play In The XFL, If You Can’t Say Something Nice, Unfulfilled Desires, and definitely not boring lame awards, like MVP, or Best Game, or Defensive Player Of The Year. See, this is a cool fun podcast, not some lame podcast that drives an Accord, pays its student loans, and eats vegetables. Let’s start the show. • Houston Texans Podcast: 2019 NFL Season Awards

    07/02/2020 Duração: 01h17min

The 2019 season is a dusty pile of cremains. Over and done with. Philip Rivers is gone. Duke Johnson maybe released. Tom Brady could play in Las Vegas. The offseason is here. But before we dive into that madness, and fight the ignorant legions arguing over players they’ve never watched before, let’s celebrate the 2019 season, and take a deeper look at somethings. In this episode Matt and Taylor announce their typical season awards, MVP, offensive player, things of that nature, and then, hand out even better ones with cute little names like Oh! My Eye!, Cold Hard Fact, Step Back Now, and OH-OH. Put on your Costco blazer and finest blue jeans. Pour yourself a beer in that frozen mug you love so much. • Houston Texans Podcast: Super Bowl LIV LAUGH LOVE Review

    03/02/2020 Duração: 01h03min

The Houston Texans have never won a Superbowl. They haven’t even been to a Conference Championship game. Maybe one day they will. Who knows. Until then, we have to do things like this, review a Superbowl without them in it. This time it was the Kansas City Chiefs beating the San Francisco 49ers 31-20. In this episode we discuss why everything I said about the game preview was correct, the strange first half game plan from Andy Reid, the strange second half game plan from Kyle Shanahan, if the 49ers would have won if Kirk Cousins was their quarterback, if Tyrod Taylor was their quarterback, if Josh Allen was their quarterback, the Chiefs’ comeback, Chris Jones middle blocker, butt cleavage, the love in our hearts we have for Andy Reid, and already being over the Patrick Mahomes praise. • Houston Texans Podcast: Super Bowl LIV Preview

    31/01/2020 Duração: 01h32min

A lifetime ago, we were laying on our carpets in August, grating the dog hair into puffy little mountains, and imagining what the 2019 NFL Season would look like. What happened was more interesting than the little stories we told ourselves. Josh Allen would become the most entertaining quarterback since Lamar Jackson, who was the top predator in a beautiful offensive ecosystem. Jameis Winston would join the 30-30 club and throw 33 touchdowns and 30 interceptions. The Rams would miss the playoffs and watch in horror as the 49ers go from worst to first. Derrick Henry won the rushing title and turned cowboy karaoke into a Toby Keith song. After decades of success, the Patriots' offense finally fell apart, like all things eventually do. And the Houston Texans would get kicked out of the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs. Well, maybe that last thing was expected. Now it all comes to an end. The Superbowl is about to begin. Matt Weston and his good friend Taylor, preview the LIV-LAUGH-LOVE Superbowl, and discuss

  • Houston Texans Podcast: The Tennis Coach

    22/01/2020 Duração: 01h11min

There were Conference Championship games on Sunday, and that was what I wanted to talk about, but that wasn’t what we talked about. Instead, BFD and I, sat cross legged out of doors, at the local cafe, sipped cappuccinos, and had a conversation about the newest Houston Texans news: John Pagano, Chris Olsen, and Romeo Crennel’s heads in the basket, the Bill O’Brien era, In Summation: A Wrap Up Of The Texans’ 2019 Season, head coach/front office dreaming, Diehard Chris’s Tom Brady conspiracy, and what Gwyneth Paltrow is up to nowadays. And of course, we answered your wonderful questions. • Houston Texans Podcast: 2019 NFL Playoffs Conference Championship Preview

    17/01/2020 Duração: 01h12min

This Tennessee Titans run is not sustainable. Ryan Tannehill is averaging 9.2 yards an attempt. Derrick Henry is averaging 7.92 yards a carry in the third quarter. Their redzone touchdown rate is 79.5% with Tannehill at quarterback, and more specifically, they've scored 31 touchdowns, kicked 1 field goal, turned it over 3 times, and have 4 drives that ended because of the clock. They're second in second half offense DVOA. This has to end. It can't go on forever. This is black magic, death eating sorcery, some diabolical apothecaric brew. The warlocks are drinking margaritas in the Logan's Roadhouse and it's not even happy hour. Oh, and the Chiefs are 7-0 since losing 35-32 to the Titans back in week 10. The Packers are the worst playoff team remaining. They are 12th in weighted DVOA. The 49ers are 5th. San Francisco has an advantage at every position except quarterback, and the Packers will need Aaron Rodgers to be as good as Russell Wilson in this game, something that hasn't happened since like 2011. It's th

  • Houston Texans Podcast: 2019 NFL Playoffs Divisional Round (The Texans Blew A 24 Point Lead)

    14/01/2020 Duração: 01h22min

Let me see here...the Houston Texans went up 24 to.....hmmmmmmm...0? That's strange. 24-0. Yep. I guess that's right. They went up 24-0 against the Kansas City Chiefs. And then they, no, there's no way, gave up 41....41!...points in a row. That can't be possible. This has to be some sort of horrendous afterlife. I don't believe it. Wake me up. Wake me up inside. In this episode Matt and BFD review the end of the Houston Texans 2019 season. Topics include: riding the roller coaster that is Houston Texans fandom, the inevitable pass defense destruction, what Romeo Crennel could have done to limit Kansas City's passing offense, why the offense actually struggled, ESTABLISHING THE RUN, and, of course, your listener questions. • Houston Texans Podcast: Kansas City Conversing

    11/01/2020 Duração: 01h07min

The Texans played the Chiefs back in week six. This was almost three months ago. SO much has happened since. There were games and holidays, injuries and player progression, transactions and scheme changes. So much has changed. We should definitely catch up some time. OMG YES. Jeff Fedotin covers the Chiefs for Forbes.com and co-hosts the Bleav In Chiefs podcast with former Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman Joe Valerio. On this episode he and I discuss why the Chiefs' offense has dropped off from an all-time great one to a top three one, their redzone and run game struggles, if there is a way to limit and slow down their passing attack, why their defense has been excellent since the Tennessee game, Frank Clark's health, Steve Spagnolo's defense, All-PRO Tyrann Mathieu, and of course, a prediction for Sunday's game between the Texans and the Chiefs. • Houston Texans Podcast: 2019 NFL Playoffs Divisional Round Preview (Texans v. Chiefs)

    10/01/2020 Duração: 01h27min

It's the most wonderful time of the year. The big boys are out of the stable. The underdogs are running under their hooves. The four best games of the season, all on the same weekend. It’s the Divisional Round of the 2019 NFL Playoffs. In this episode, my good friend Taylor and I inspect the Texans chances against the Kansas Chiefs, this weekend's most interesting game, catching the 9:30 showing of 1917 on Saturday Night, every Seahawks game is absurd and slippery and this one will be, and of course, your listener questions. • Houston Texans Podcast: 2019 NFL Playoffs Wildcard Round (Watson Was Great That Day)

    07/01/2020 Duração: 01h23min

A mystical experience must meet two qualities. It must be ineffable and have a noetic quality. Mystical experiences also tend to be transient and passive, but these aren't requirements. Deshaun Watson's spin out dump off to Taiwan Jones met all four of those qualities. It wasn't beautiful or spectacular or unbelievable. It was a mystical experience that defies language and provides a deeper understanding. Because of this, the Houston Texans beat the Buffalo Bills 19-16, and are moving on to the Divisional Round of the 2019 NFL Playoffs. In this episode Matt and BFD review the Texans win over the Bills. Topics include: the reasons why Houston's offense struggled in the first half, Duke Johnson needing more touches, the importance of Cullen Gillaspia to block the second level, getting DeAndre Hopkins out wide and out of the slot, Josh Allen, my Josh Allen, why the Texans' defense limited Buffalo to 16 points, and a brief look at the Divisional Round against the Kansas City Chiefs by answering your questions. 8-3 one possession record. 2.2 more wins than their Pythagorean record. 23.6 points for. 24.1 points against. 19th in DVOA. AFC South Champions anyways. A date with the Buffalo Bills. How does a late lunch sound? Ooooo. Yummy. Have you had tapas before? What's a tapa? Omg you don't know what a tapa is! I know the coolest tapa spot. We HAVE to go! lol cool. It’s the Wildcard Round of the 2019 NFL Playoffs. In this episode, my good friend Taylor and I pick through the shambles and shreds of my conflicted and divided heart, if the Titans can TITAN UP over the flailing and miserable New England Patriots (sad!), the wilting Seahawks road chances against those depressed dog mask wearing denizens, and Kirk Cousins trying to improve on his 3/10 for 31 yards playoff stat line in the Superdupergumbo Dome. • Houston Texans Podcast: Buffalo Bills Deep Diving

    03/01/2020 Duração: 01h14min

Buffalo is an exotic place. Deep in the northeast corner of the country. Far away from Texas. Far away from Houston. Chances are, you are unlike me, and don't watch the Buffalo Bills play condensed football because you live a fulfilling and meaningful life. To help get you prepared for Saturday's BIG Wildcard matchup I had Kevin Massare on the podcast to discuss the Buffalo Bills, and preview their matchup against the Houston Texans. In this episode, Kevin and I discuss Josh Allen's development, the Bills' power run game, the right tackle v. left defensive end matchup Houston can exploit, Buffalo's wide receiver situation, the discrepancy between their pass and run defense, how Sean McDermott generates pressure, if Tre'Davious White will follow DeAndre Hopkins, and Kevin's final score prediction. • Houston Texans Podcast: Week Seventeen NFL Preview (Texans v. Titans)

    27/12/2019 Duração: 01h24min

It’s the last week of the 2019 NFL regular season. These are the last games of the decade. A few years ago a read a book this time of year called Young Once. It was a french novel about a man revisiting the set of circumstances he met his wife in. It was ok. The title was better than the book itself. Yet, whenever nice round numbers of time come to an end, I can see and hear the title in my head. Young Once. Ahh, yes, that was us this past summer and now it has all come to an end. Young Once. That was us at the beginning of this decade and now it has all come to an end. It’s Week Seventeen of the NFL season. In this episode, Matt and Taylor remind Bill O’Brien the Texans have almost nothing to play for this Sunday and that the NFL Playoffs would be better with the Tennessee Titans, revisit last week’s melancholic Dallas loss and look down at their still beating heart, count up what maybe an insurmountable batch of Seattle injuries, and briefly talk about the Steelers’ last hope and mainly talk about the art w

  • Houston Texans Podcast: The Doors Of Perception (Texans v. Buccaneers Review)

    24/12/2019 Duração: 01h16min

The Buccaneers are the NFL equivalent of a hallucinogenic experience. A holographic sheen covers all things: deep passes, missed open receivers, turnovers, so many turnovers, big blitzes, receivers running uncovered downfield except against the Houston Texans, silly rush attempts in short yardage situations, and it all, of course, coming down to a final possession. After embarking on a game against the Buccaneers the opponent may have epiphanies, come to realizations, and gain a deeper understanding of those things that have been eluding them. What was once a bowl of spaghetti pushed across the table of time, is now untangled, straight, clear and concise. In this episode, BFD and I discuss the Texans winning another AFC South Championship. Topics include: Jameis’s interceptions, the Texans ESTABLISHING THE RUN, the TEXANS ESTABLISHING THE RUN, the lack of deep passing, Deshaun Watson’s strange performance, if Houston’s defense played well, starting the starters against Tennessee, and the impending Buffalo ram
