  • Episode 106: Abraham's Many Children

    13/06/2018 Duração: 11min

The faith of Abraham, also called the Hebrew faith, was a mother that gave birth to three daughters: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. The Hebrew faith as described in the OT is like a big table with plenty of room for many believers. The God of the Bible delights in seeing His people from different faiths come together to pray, worship, and celebrate. This week one of our #fhcTAKEAWAYS asked: If Christians and Muslims believe in one God, why can’t they live together in peace? We welcome your feedback and questions about this topic! • Episode 105: Find Your Voice And Use It

    06/06/2018 Duração: 20min

When we say yes to Jesus we are agreeing to be wise and to become people, individually and as a body, who speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves. This week one of our #fhcTAKEAWAYS asked: Who do you know or know about in Orlando (or wherever you are) who can’t speak for themselves and needs an advocate, needs your voice? We welcome your feedback and questions about this topic! • Episode 104: There Is Wisdom In Many Counselors

    30/05/2018 Duração: 19min

I once heard a speaker who counseled his listeners to quit spending so much energy on figuring out if something was right or wrong, and simply inquire, “Is this the wise thing to do?” Who, in their right minds, would want to do the foolish thing? Apparently, many people. There are proverbs that warn of the foolishness of just using our own opinions to make decisions, and that the wise listen to others. There is safety with many counselors. There are Proverbs about the wise seeking knowledge and fools eating trash. Some about not talking too much, about avoiding fights and not quarreling. The wise set themselves up for success by choosing wisdom over foolishness. This may be why Solomon writes, “Wine produces mockers; alcohol leads to brawls. Those led astray by drink cannot be wise.” He knew that there are many more foolish decisions made once we are led astray by drink. How do we get ahead of many problems that come with clouded judgment caused by alcohol? Maybe we can consider our choices not with all the

  • Episode 103: Don't Be Lazy | Don't Work Too Hard

    23/05/2018 Duração: 18min

Often following graduation, there’s this urge to go find the perfect job that will pay a bunch, invest well, and get rich. (Isn’t that why you got educated?) Solomon warns about trying to get rich, especially “get-rich-quick” schemes. On the other end of the spectrum are those who think life will be handed to them, and so they are lazy and miss opportunities. Wisdom is found in the balance between working hard to build a life and resources, and no concern about the future that results in laziness. We will search for the balancing point. This week one of our #fhcTAKEAWAYS asked: Why do you think we don’t take the warnings about riches seriously? We welcome your feedback and questions about this topic! • Episode 102: Humility Brings Wisdom

    16/05/2018 Duração: 20min

Graduation and graduation talks are not usually packed with humble words. Instead, graduates hear about how they have arrived, they did it, they are smart, how far they’ve come, and that the future is in their hands. Sometimes this can cause feelings of pride and superiority to all those somewhere behind them in the academic journey. Solomon explains that pride ends in humiliation and disgrace, while humility brings wisdom and honor and opens the door to receive God’s grace, which he gives to the humble. Tied to this are words of counsel about keeping your mouth shut and not blowing your own horn – a bit different counsel than most graduation talks. This week we have our first-ever #fhcTAKEAWAYS-Combo! Each week our takeaways give us some questions or words of wisdom to ponder. Given how this subject has impacted people, the two takeaways we have are: On a continuum of unhealthy pride to low self-esteem, where do you land? And, two: If you were to ask co-workers, close friends, or family for feedback, wh

  • Episode 101: Issues We All Face

    09/05/2018 Duração: 20min

Shame, belonging, failure, wanting and needing love. These are core concerns for children in foster care, but they are issues we all face. We are children of a God whose love is extravagant and unconditional. How does that reality help to heal our own insecurities and equip us to restore others? We welcome your feedback and questions about this topic! • Episode 100: Loving People = Serving People

    02/05/2018 Duração: 25min

The great commission to go and make disciples of all nations and Jesus’ declaration that, when the Holy Spirit comes on you, you will be my witnesses, have often felt like a call to share information. There is important information to share, but if we look back at our first week and the definition expanded, consider the common ground of love around the globe, and hear God’s call to love those outside our “loveable” category, this whole great commission and promise of Spirit-filled witnesses is really about loving people into a lifelong friendship with God. If love is “readiness to serve,” then we fulfill our mission as we implement our vision to serve the people of our community. There was not a #fhcTAKEAWAYS from this past week so we made up our own on the show! How can you show love in everything you do, no matter how big or how small? Everything is a big word with broad implications. I would love to hear of creative ways that you try to show love in everything you do!We welcome your feedback and questio

  • Episode 99: Loving The Opposition

    25/04/2018 Duração: 18min

It may seem almost natural to love our own team. It’s no big challenge to be devoted to the people who are on our side, our party, our school, our church, our neighborhood. But the call of Christ is to bless the opposition. This means not restricting our love to those we define as loveable, but to really be followers of Christ and practice no revenge and to love everyone. Jesus was so good at this that the religious leaders, intending to insult him, gave him the greatest compliment of his divinity—friend of sinners! One of our #fhcTAKEAWAYS from this past week asked: What is your biggest personal hurdle in thinking about loving enemies? I’ve thought about this and personally, and probably more often than we realize, our living in seclusion - be it at home, at work, even at church, among “our people”, it’s hard to love someone that you don’t know, or even realize that they exist. I would be curious to hear what has been your biggest hurdle. We welcome your feedback and questions about this topic! Please re

  • Episode 98: God's Common Ground

    18/04/2018 Duração: 18min

We believe there is only one God, and that God has defined himself as love. So, are we open to recognizing that “love” is a revelation of God in all world faiths, not just Christianity? John seems unequivocal that “whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him,” and that if anyone says “I love God,” but hates his brother, he is a liar. We have no doubt that Jesus is God and the clearest picture of God’s love, and we know that Jesus is the most direct path to experiencing God’s love. But we can’t get around the reality that “whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him!” Is this true even if they don’t know Jesus? One of our #fhcTAKEAWAYS from this past week asked: Who will you “serve” “love” that they might become a lifelong friend of God? Last week we finished our episode by defining love in the words of Dr. Stefanovic as; “the readiness to serve” and fits nicely with this takeaway as we search out and ask God for who we might “serve love” too.We welcome your feedback and questions about this top

  • Episode 97: Love - Enlarging the Definition

    11/04/2018 Duração: 20min

John 3:16:For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. When you really think about it: This, in itself, is God’s character and desire revealed in one picture. It is the reason why we were created in his image. It is the reason why God has prepared a new home for us. It is the reason why our hearts beat and why we have breath in our bodies. It is how others will know who we follow and to whom we belong. One of our #fhcTAKEAWAYS from this message asked: … Love has been defined as a "readiness to serve." How can this definition be enlarged as you mingle with the people in your community? Personally, I find that when I look back on situations that really make me happy and satisfy my soul with peace and contentment, they almost always have the same component: giving. Giving of time, talent, treasure, kind words, the all feel good and all make me feel loved for doing my best to love someone else. How do you measure love?We welco

  • Episode 96: The Resurrection

    04/04/2018 Duração: 12min

Death in our world is definite, with no second chances. How then do we fully comprehend and hold on to the message of Easter and the Resurrection when there is nothing in our world to compare it to? For many, there is an ever-increasing amount of noise surrounding what they believe and why. The Resurrection is absolutely foundational to everything a Christian believes and we do our best to keep it simple and unfiltered.Agree? Disagree? Not sure but have questions? • Episode 95: Church - Where Do I Fit In?

    28/03/2018 Duração: 14min

We live in a world that is constantly in transition. What is true of the world is also true of the church. In this complex context, many today are asking the question, “Where do I fit in?” The sermon attempts to show that there is permanence and belonging in Christ. Guest Speaker: Dan Jackson, President of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in North America. One of our #fhcTAKEAWAYS from this message asked: …What role does the pastor play in God’s plan for the church? Considering we are followers of Christ we have all singed on to be “Ministers of the Most High God”, this includes all of us.Please share and reach out to us directly from the FHC Mobile App. You can share by using the Media tab, and then - Podcast banner - use the text and email share buttons, or use one of the following:■ Text/Voicemail: 407-965-1607■ Email: podcast@hospitalchurch.org■ FHC Mobile App: Media Tab/Podcast Banner and Use Text and Email links■ Social Media: #fhcPODCAST / #fhcTAKEAWAYSTune in every Wednesday as we take a look b

  • Episode 94: Church Retreat - Room at the Table

    21/03/2018 Duração: 20min

The theme for the 2018 FHC Retreat was “Making Room at the Table,” considering how, when Jesus walked the earth, he spent time with, valued, and chose as his closest friends those whom society – and particularly church leaders – marginalized and rejected. As his followers, we are called to be intentional about creating hospitable environments in our communities. How can a church be more relevant to, and inclusive of, those who have often been excluded? This year’s Retreat speaker was Lisa Diller. Lisa is a historian (PhD, University of Chicago) who teaches on the early modern world at Southern Adventist University. She researches and writes on religious minorities and the development of modern liberal democracy. In addition to seventeenth century religion and politics, she enjoys service/activism in her urban neighborhood and ministry in the local church community she and her husband Tommy helped start in 2008 (https://wellonthesouthside.com/). Her academic credentials enable her to talk about history and po

  • Episode 93: Replacing Guilt

    14/03/2018 Duração: 18min

Many of us feel as though we just need to live with guilt. After all, it is our place and our state of being, right? In Romans 3:23, the Bible says “all have sinned and fallen short.” Though God never intended for us to live within this emotional and spiritual state, it has been the leverage of most churches to manipulate people into thinking that this is how God gets us to understand how bad we are and how much we need his forgiveness. But think about it: if guilt was God’s way of getting us to follow him, our decision to return is actually no different than the reason for leaving in the first place. If we are only in this to relieve pain or seek pleasure, then guilt is a horrible motivator. It is only after we “come to our senses” (become convicted) and understand that the Father’s way of living is the only way, that we discover wholeness and fulfillment. God uses conviction, not guilt, to bring us to repentance and a loving relationship. One of our #fhcTAKEAWAYS from this message asked us to: …To whom wi

  • Episode 92: Cast Out Fear

    07/03/2018 Duração: 19min

The Bible says that perfect love casts out all fear, yet we have therapists, self help books, relaxation techniques, and even personal rituals all to help us live with the fears that sometimes seem to paralyze us. God never wanted us to live in fear; that is why he used so many analogies of himself as being the Way, the Light, and the Good Shepherd. All of these were to calm our feelings about the unknown future and to let him go before us to provide the peace of knowing he’s still in control. So how do we allow him to do that? What will it take for us to let him provide that perfect love? One of our #fhcTAKEAWAYS from this message asked us to: …What types of fears in your life usually turn your focus towards external distractions or internal obsessions? Sharing your journey through the lens of your struggles and fears is unique and personal but can also be an incredible buoy for someone who needs to hear that they aren’t alone in their struggles. What fears and victories could you or would you share? Pl

  • Episode 91: Olympic Values - Excellence

    28/02/2018 Duração: 18min

No one can be asked to do better than their best. Win or lose—Gold, Silver, Bronze or no medal, if we each do our best, there can be a certain satisfaction in a race well run. And doing our best, giving our “all” in the places where we put our energy is God honoring. Excellence can be sought selfishly or not, but fulfilling and becoming all God made us to be, to live lives of excellence, honors God.One of our #fhcTAKEAWAYS from this message asked us to: …Why do you think so many church buildings, programs, services are not done with excellence? • Episode 90: Olympic Values - Respect

    21/02/2018 Duração: 21min

Here is a value often missing in our world. There seems to be an increasing interest in only respecting oneself, but Scripture calls us to “show proper respect” for everyone. How would this change our world? Respect is a call to be fair, knowing your own limits while taking care of yourself and the people in your sphere of influence. How do we learn to respect others, especially those who see things differently than we do? What could happen if we followed Scripture and respected one another – even those we consider on an “opposite side?”One of our #fhcTAKEAWAYS from this message asked us to: …Who do you find it most difficult to respect? 14/02/2018 Duração: 21min

How important to you is the value of having friends—someone who “gets” you? What are the traits exemplified by friends for one another? Proverbs 17:17 says “A friend loves at all times!” How can we develop the traits that make it easy for us to be friends? And what does it mean when Jesus says he call us friends, that like Abraham, we can be a friend of God?One of our #fhcTAKEAWAYS from this message asked us to: …How can you relax into your friendship with God? • Episode 88: A Life Well Lived

    07/02/2018 Duração: 20min

Welcome back to our normal schedule of brand new episodes every Wednesday! This week we cover two of the previous three weeks we missed while Randy was in Hawaii!IN HONORING GOD’S EXPECTATIONSJanuary 20, 2018Understanding tithing is important for today. It seems sort of arbitrary that God would say that 10 off the top of our increase is claimed by him! Is this still true for today? Is “tithing” some old covenant law like circumcision that is no longer valid for Christians today? Or are the reasons behind tithing still valid and still important? How are tithe dollars used, and what’s the biblical mandate?IN CHOOSING THE RIGHT GODJanuary 27, 2018While pagan temples may not be a big draw today, the temptation of idols is alive and real. In fact, the most attractive idol is our self! Our excuses for not giving more may be about our loyalties and values more than the excuse we verbalize. We are told by Jesus to “lay up treasure in heaven” because our hearts follow our money! The invitation isn’t so much abo
