26/08/2019 Duração: 01h07sJimmy Halfcut is the founder of Halfcut.org, a conservation charity dedicated to preserving rainforests - half of which have already been lost. Jimmy’s a handsome fella, with a luscious Ned Kelly beard that he has shaved vertically down the middle. Goes without saying that it’s a striking look, but as he says, vanity is a small price to pay in exchange for engaging somebody about the state of the natural world around them. I wholeheartedly agree! By halfcutting his beard, Jimmy is producing the chance for people to contribute towards rainforest conservation, which is a frighteningly urgent need. Especially when it only costs $2.50 to protect an ENTIRE ACRE. Can you believe that?! One coffee in the morning is somehow equivalent to 2 acres of ancient, priceless biodiversity. Insane. Halfcut.org is a wonderful grassroots organisation dedicated to real, measurable conservation, and I absolutely loved chatting with him. 26/07/2019 Duração: 35minTHE CIRCADIAN CONSULTANT Tom Eadie is on it. Like, really on it. How to even begin describing this man?! Weapon chef, sourdough king, allround niceguy. Quiet, unassuming, shockingly powerful. Full tilt legend! Tom’s a foodie, and he’s hellbent on reconnecting people with nature by reconnecting them with their food. @berkelo bakery has taken the northern beaches by storm but it’s not just the insane sourdough or dangerously moreish pastry - it’s the vertical integration of serving food grown literally up the road, true exemplification of paddock-to-plate eating. Tom’s organic garden in Terrey Hills is a sight to behold, and provides food for his three bakeries with surplus produce sold at weekend markets. We had a bloody delightful stroll through it on a recent crispy morning, sampling bits and bobs and chatting our way through the universe. GREENING OUT #23 - Greenwashed!
23/01/2018 Duração: 29minGreenwashing is scary shit. Scary in that there are humans out there (plenty of them) willing to put profits over the health of the planet. This post is a brief overview of what greenwashing is, why you might fall victim to it more easily than is comfortable to think about, and how it's gone down in the past in Australia. As for the second half of this podcast... hmm. I guess if you claim to be 100% anything, as soon as you slip up - no matter how seemingly minor the deviation - your credibility stands to suffer. That's the crux of this current Patagonia situation, as - despite all their good work - a mission statement claiming "cause no unnecessary harm" means that profiteering of any kind will be pretty much unacceptable. Certainly that is the feedback being offered by the environmental community in the wake of their new food line, which is sold in single-use plastic packaging. Sigh. I guess nobody's perfect right? SOME NOTES: Further contextualising Abetz in this story are his swift attacks on Greenpeace Australia and environmentalists in general, which he made almost immediately after stepping into the office of ‘Special Minister for Fisheries, Forestry and Conservation’ for the Howard Cabinet in 2006. Was it because he accurately foresaw such activists as potential impediments to his future supertrawler conspiracy with Parlevliet and Van Der Plast? I think I said on the recording that Abetz invented his role as Special Minister - THIS IS FALSE. It is true however, that he was the last to hold that office, as it was mysteriously abolished after his occupation. Could it be though, that he engineered the closure of the department in order to grant himself permanent title of ‘most recent Fisheries Minister’… whereby appointing himself as undisputed chief parliamentary advisor to any future government on all things fishing?
