SHY 60: Scott Gooding – Making real food simple, fun, sexy and affordable
06/02/2018 Duração: 55minSometimes an interview comes along that’s so free-flowing and fun that we run overtime… and I don’t want to interrupt to person to say “stop.” This is one of those interviews. Meet Scott Gooding – a passionate real food cook, former MKR finalist… and all round awesome bloke. Scott’s superpower is making healthy food simple, fun, sexy, affordable… and downright delicious. He’s brought out recipe books, taught countless cooking classes and is often found on stage and in the media, inspiring people everywhere to get into the kitchen and give it a go. In this episode, we ponder the question: “We all know we should eat real food, but why is it that we don’t?” Listen as we chat about: – Un-learning old behaviour patterns around food. – Why mindset is super important when it comes to healthy eating. – How to overcome barriers in order to live a healthier life. – How to turn the kitchen from a place of dread into somewhere fun and exciting. – Simple, easy hacks to make cooking at home a breeze. “If you start cooking

SHY 59: Bella Zanesco – Coming back from corporate burnout
23/01/2018 Duração: 38minMeet Bella Zanesco – a life and wellbeing strategist. She helps professionals plan for and bring their A-game to their life, career and relationships. She’s also world champion sailor and kiteboarder. In her previous corporate life she delivered over $5billion in new revenues to Fortune 500 companies including Pepsi Co, Sainsbury’s, Reed Elsevier, Unilever, and The Royal Mail. Despite all these successes Bella hit a massive hurdle when she succumbed to adrenal failure and burnout. “I ended up in the foetal position in my mother’s arms.” It was this rock bottom time that prompted Bella to sit up an re-evaluate her whole life. “I had quite a severe bout of depression, and literally my daily goals were making a green smoothie, making the bed, and going for a walk.” After nursing her body (and mind!) back to health, she dug deep to find out why things went so wrong. She identified “a cluster of screwups” that had happened in her work, relationships and in her physical and mental self care. And she became curious

SHY 58: Ask the Naturopath
09/01/2018 Duração: 20minHello and welcome to a fresh new year! For this week’s episode, I’ve decided to revive an old segment called “Ask the Naturopath.” It’s a part of the show where I answer your most burning health questions. I love this segment because I get to find out what’s really going on with you, what makes you, the listener, tick, and it tells me what information you really want me to talk about. In this episode we talk about how to increase your calcium levels naturally (especially if you can’t have dairy), how to get rid of a pesky parasite called Blastocystis hominis (aka “blasto”), and we also chat about all things detoxing, and how to do a healthy liver cleanse (it may not be as complicated as you think!). If you have a question for a future episode, please email me at hello@julegalloway.com or hit me up via my Facebook page, because I will definitely be doing more of these in 2018. SHY 57: Katherine Maslen – On modern naturopathy, Dr Google, and THAT doTerra essential oil controversy
26/12/2017 Duração: 36minMeet Katherine Maslen – fellow naturopath, nutritionist, author, speaker… and a bit of a renegade when it comes to the health scene. She’s been featured on the Today show on Channel 9, ABC radio, Wellbeing, Good Health and Marie Claire magazines. She still works in clinical practice, but these days she’s also on a mission to change the way that people think about health, through speaking engagements, media appearances and her blog. I’ve brought her on the show because she’s known around the naturopathic traps as one THE go-to practitioners. She’s also caused a wee bit of controversy in recent times. We chat about the benefits and the dangers of getting your health info from Google, Facebook or health forums. We also shoot the breeze about the rise in popularity of functional testing in practice, and the pros and cons of latest types of blood testing and hormone testing, especially in fertility and female repro cases. Katherine also reveals her love for herbal medicine and why there’s so much magic in using he

SHY 56: I’m Baaaaaaaack!
12/12/2017 Duração: 22minWell, helloooooo! It’s been a while since we’ve chatted, huh? First of all, I must apologise for the extended hiatus. I was only planning to take 2-3 months off from podcasting, just for the winter, and it turned into 6 months. In that time I created and launched a brand new 12 week program called the Adrenal Fatigue Breakthrough – that was pretty awesome. I’ve also been super busy in the clinic, mostly with Skype consultations. But something else happened in the last 6 months that took up a fair bit of my time and energy! Listen to this episode and I’ll fill you in on: • My new role organising medical and nutrition volunteer trips to Fiji. • The communities that we worked in on both Fiji’s main island and on a couple of remote islands. • The challenges in preventing heart disease and diabetes in Fiji. • And what you can do to help right now! As promised, here are the links mentioned in the episode: Our crowdfunding page is here, or head to http://julesgalloway.com. Click here to read Jess’ blog post about he

SHY 54: Amanda Campbell – On MS, Autoimmunity and Kinesiology
23/05/2017 Duração: 39minMeet Amanda Campbell from Bend Like Bamboo. She’s a passionate kinesiologist with a special interest in autoimmune conditions. You see, when Amanda was in her 20’s, she was diagnosed with MS, and autoimmune condition that many would consider to be a life sentence. From hardcore steroids and months spent in rehab in hospital, to finally being able to wriggle her toes, and then learning to walk again, Amanda’s road to recovery looks like a long and arduous uphill struggle. Then she discovered kinesiology, mindset changes and wholefood eating, and this became her turning point for transformation. “I do believe I wasn’t listening, and life said, Alright – if you’re not going to slow down, I’m going to slow you down.” In this episode you will find out: Why Amanda believes she became sick in the first place The mindset shifts that had to happen in order for her to get well How she eats to maintain her health now The links between stress and disease What kinesiology is and how it works Who might benefit from kinesi

SHY 53: Rachael Kable – Mindfulness for Busy Women
16/05/2017 Duração: 39minMindfulness… We all know we should do it, but how many of us actually consciously practice it every day? All too often we can get caught up in our daily tasks and struggles, and forget to take the time to bring awareness to simple actions that can create balance and relaxation. Enter Rachael Kable. Her podcast, The Mindful Kind, is consistently at the top of the iTunes charts, and with good reason – the short, bite-sized episodes are full of actionable take-aways, delivered in a gentle, calming way. In this episode, we pick Rachael’s brain about: How to kick off a mindfulness practice Why the mind wanders, and how to bring it back How to weave mindfulness into everything you do Why, when done correctly, mindfulness doesn’t feel like a chore How to remind yourself to practice mindfulness How to cope with stressful situations Why sad is not a bad feeling (and how to deal with it) How to get your partner and family involved Take a deep breath, sit back, and (mindfully) listen to this episode, and watch your st

09/05/2017 Duração: 49minMeet Rebecca Sullivan – an eco-activist, food writer, urban farmer, and amazing cook. SHY 51: Jessica Murnane – Managing Endometriosis with a Plant Based Diet
02/05/2017 Duração: 46minMeet Jessica Murnane – a passionate cook, recipe creator, podcaster… and endometriosis thriver. I came across her show “One Part Podcast” on iTunes recently, and just LOVED her inspiring, optimistic and non-judgemental style when it comes to health and the foods she chooses to eat. It takes women an average of 10 years to be diagnosed with endometriosis (Jessica went to a multitude of doctors who never picked it up), and it’s still one of the most misdiagnosed conditions out there. Jessica tells us the signs and symptoms to look out for, and shares tips on how to get formally diagnosed. If you have trouble with your periods, her advice is to seek out help – don’t just accept it as being normal. “It’s not normal for you not to function on your period.” After a couple of surgeries and trying out a range of drugs, Jessica was still in pain, suffering from severe depression, and was then offered a hysterectomy. A timely encounter with a friend resulted in her trying a plant based diet as her last ditch effort. Ki

SHY 50: Jules Galloway – Healing Chronic Fatigue
25/04/2017 Duração: 21minThis week’s episode is a big one, because it’s actually my 50th episode of Shiny Healthy You, woohoooo!!! It’s also a big episode in a different way because it’s quite a personal one. And that’s because I’ll be giving you an update on what’s going on in my world. A recent (and unexpected) diagnosis of chronic fatigue has hit me for 6. It reeeeally messed with my head. There’s nothing like being told you have an illness that other people can’t even see. But after a 2-day pity party that involved wine, chocolate and Netflix, I launched into action. Find out the research I did, what I discovered, how I’m dealing with this head on, and the mindset shift that had to happen first. I’ve also radically changed my diet, so there’s a fair bit of info in this program about that too. I’ve selected a pretty tough protocol to follow, so I’ll take you through why I chose this path and how I stay motivated and on track (well, mostly!). Because sometimes even naturopaths need to pull their fingers out and do a bit of a detox.

SHY 49: Penny Murden – Coming Back from Chronic Fatigue
18/04/2017 Duração: 42minToday’s guest started out as a client and ended up as a friend. She was one of the first women to join my Shiny Healthy You program, and I had the privilege of watching her go from strength to strength. From chronic fatigue to recently conquering (for the second time) an EPIC mountain bike event in New Zealand, this is one focused woman who knows what she wants and once she gets her eyes on the prize, you know she’s going to smash through all kinds of barriers. I’ve brought her on the podcast today to show you that it CAN be done – it IS possible to get back on track after chronic fatigue. Not only that, but we’re going to pick her brain as to HOW she stayed on track. Listen, as we cover Penny’s 3 pillars to better health. Find out how she went from chronic pain and illness to not taking a single painkiller in 6 months. Listen to the compelling story of her comeback to fitness, and how she went from rock bottom to getting back to mountain biking, snowboarding, and so much more. “Pilates changed my life.” We c

SHY 48: Chara Caruthers – Yoga For Everybody
11/04/2017 Duração: 52minIf you’re a fan of this podcast, or if you’ve done my Shiny Healthy You 12 week program, then you will probably already know and love yoga teacher and yoga therapist Chara Caruthers. She appeared on Episode 21, where we talked about all things Ayurveda. But in this episode I’ve got her back in to chat about one of my favourite pastimes – and that’s yoga! Chara’s students are drawn to her wise, gentle, flowing and pragmatic style, which is always sprinkled with a good dose of humour, and if you haven’t “met” her yet – I just know you’re gonna love her! Chara’s also a friend of mine, so in this interview we REALLY get down to the nitty gritty, with no topic that’s off limits! Prepare for some valuable insights and lots of laughter in the process. Yoga is so much more than a series of poses. If you’re going to a typical yoga class, that’s just one aspect of yoga. Chara takes us through the deeper meaning of yoga as a system for living our best possible lives. By tuning into our own inner voice, and when we begin

SHY 47: Fouad Kassab – Life-Changing Food
04/04/2017 Duração: 53minMeet Fouad Kassab – a man on a mission to bring us back in touch with real food. Growing up in a war-torn country, Fouad spent his formative years hunkered down in bomb shelters and living on processed food rations provided by international aid. When his health started to suffer, he was put on countless rounds of antibiotics, as there were no other alternatives available. Fast forward to 2001, and he migrated to Australia from Lebanon. He was drawn to the restaurant industry, and became one of Australia’s first food bloggers, with a website simply named “The Food Blog.” Throughout this time his health still suffered. After years of being overweight, yo-yo dieting, acne, eczema and medications, he became fed up with the mainstream medical system. He discovered a new way of living that involved paleo food and gut healing, and he’s never looked back. “Wellness is our birthright.” Fouad is now passionate about getting us back in touch with healing ingredients and letting food become our medicine. “When you go int

Our mission was to break up into smaller groups and head to various camps throughout Greece (which contained mainly Syrian and Afghani refugees) to volunteer our time and expertise wherever needed. In this episode, you will hear more from my time on an island called Chios, where boats full of refugees are arriving regularly from Turkey. In this episode I’ll take you on a virtual trip to Souda Camp, where we would serve afternoon tea every day to occupants. 21/02/2017 Duração: 38minThis week I’m talking with Carla Wrenn – an Integrative Naturopath and Functional Medicine practitioner. She has a special interest in integrative oncology and takes on clients who are living with cancer. Yep – today we are talking about The Big C – what to do if you get it, how to assist others who have it, and where to go for information that’s accurate, reliable and up to date. In this episode we will cover: What the term “functional medicine” actually means What the first thing is that you should do if you’re diagnosed with cancer Questions you should ask your oncologist Ketogenic diets, paleo diets, vegan diets and juice cleanses How natural medicine can help improve treatment outcomes Natural ways to deal with side effects of cancer treatment Carla’s favourite herbs that she uses in practice The thing I love most about Carla is that she doesn’t make you choose between conventional medicine and natural options – instead, she finds a way to blend the two worlds so that both areas of medicine can do what
