  • 085: What Makes a Great Hunter?

    02/03/2018 Duração: 01h11min

On this episode, Adam is joined by the full crew of guys that were on the JOMH’s recent late season goat hunt and film expedition. This podcast was recorded part way through the trip and includes an interesting mix of guys that have diverse perspectives on the question of what makes a great hunter? You’ll hear thoughts from Dustin Roe, Nolan Osborne, Dan Watson, Steven Drake, Connor Gabbott and of course Adam. This is an opinionated topic and the group doesn’t shy away from tackling the differences between guided and non-guided hunters, high success ratios versus more selective hunting, killing for meat or age or score and many other factors that play into one’s “success” as a hunter. We hope you enjoy this one as much as we did recording it! Thanks to our guests: @dustinroe @nmo @danwato @stevendrakephoto @taluscreative

  • 082: Telling the Modern Conservation Story with Adam Foss

    02/02/2018 Duração: 01h21min

On this episode, Adam (Janke) is joined by the Fossman himself, Adam Foss. Adam (Foss) was one of the earliest guests we ever featured on the show and a lot has changed since then. He has embarked on a new career path and the hunting media landscape has never been more dynamic. The two Adams spend most of this episode discussing how the “story” of conservation has been told over the past few decades and how we can and should use creativity to tell that story in a more resonant fashion moving forward. Adam (Foss) is doing a lot of exciting work in the conservation space, is very passionate about conservation and the role hunting plays in achieving conservation goals, and given this shared passion, the Adams have a very interesting discussion about how storytelling plays a critical role in keeping both hunting and conservation relevant in today’s media landscape. • 081: Hunting Is a Complex and Dynamic Pursuit

    26/01/2018 Duração: 01h08min

***WARNING: STRONG AND EXPLICIT LANGUAGE IS USED ON THIS SHOW*** On this episode, we feature a group discussion with nine guys, all of whom were at WSF’s Sheep Show last week. We recorded this episode in one of our hotel rooms just before attending the Grand Finale Banquet so, the audio quality is not as high as we would normally produce, but given the size of the group and the microphone system required it’s the best we could do. It's not bad, but it's not up to our usual standard. In addition, this podcast contains some strong and explicit language, so if you often listen to podcasts in the vehicle with your kids, this is not one to do so with. We do apologize if anyone takes offense to the language used, but the topics covered are ones we are all, very obviously, passionate about. At least in some circles (like ours), when you get a group of guys together that feel strongly about a given subject, the language is going to get a little colorful at times. That said, the topics covered are very interesting giv

  • 080: Be Interesting if You Want People to Be Interested with Bill Roden

    23/01/2018 Duração: 01h41min

On this episode, Adam is joined by Bill Roden. Bill is a branding executive in the outdoors industry and a very passionate outdoorsman in the broadest sense possible. He is also an active member of a whole host of conservation and environmental organizations, including the BHA, RMEF, Pheasants Forever, TRCP, Trout Unlimited, QDMA, and the Sierra Club. Adam and Bill dive into a broad and lengthy discussion that surrounds the state of marketing, advertising and social media in the hunting industry. How are we representing our community on both an individual and brand level? How do the images and messages we put forth, both literal and figurative, impact our future? This is obviously a subject we’ve covered before, but Bill has spent his entire career immersed in the marketing and advertising business, so he brings a unique and experienced perspective to bear on this topic. If hunting is to remain relevant in the modern media landscape, this is a topic we cannot ignore. Enjoy! Instagram @billroden

  • 078: Life is a Verb with Eduardo Garcia

    05/01/2018 Duração: 01h26min

On this episode, Adam is joined by Chef Eduardo Garcia. Many of you may have heard of Eduardo via his film, CHARGED: THE EDUARDO GARCIA STORY, released late last year. It is a story of survival, relationships and living life to the fullest. If you have not seen this film, it is a true must watch. Eduardo’s story is interesting to say the least. After being electrocuted by 2400 volts of electricity in a freak hunting accident, Eduardo’s life was forever changed. The film is, outwardly, about that unfortunate event but more importantly covers Eduardo's life journey before and after the accident. From his paradoxically challenging and charmed life leading up to the accident to the unbelievably difficult and inspirational recovery process he had to endure, this is a story that will impact you. Adam and Eduardo dive into a host of sub-themes covered in the film, and there is no question that this podcast is a heavy and deep exploration of what it means to experience life in the fullest sense, regardless of the car

  • 077: Becoming a Hybrid Athlete with Alex Viada

    29/12/2017 Duração: 01h50min

On this episode, Adam is joined by Alex Viada. Alex is the founder and head coach at Complete Human Performance and the author of a book called THE HYBRID ATHLETE. That book and the concepts proposed within that book are some of the most applicable to the mountain or backcountry hunting community we have yet to come across. So, in this podcast Alex, and Adam, dive into the concepts within the Hybrid Athlete framework and dispel many of the myths that surround the concurrent (as in at the same time) utilization of strength and endurance training to achieve a desired outcome in any outdoors pursuit. Regardless of how serious you take your mountain or backcountry hunting preparation in the physical sense, this is worth the listen. Alex gets to the core of what it takes to adequately prepare for extended backcountry hunts, and most importantly, maintain performance, durability and longevity, over a hunt, a hunting season and a lifetime of chasing mountain game. Adam also gets Alex’s thoughts on nutrition and hydr

  • 076: The BC Grizzly Hunting Ban - What Lies Beyond?

    22/12/2017 Duração: 01h29min

***WARNING: SOME STRONG LANGUAGE IS USED (SPARINGLY) IN THIS PODCAST*** On this episode, Adam is joined by Chris Barker. Chris appeared on the podcast previously when we did our swap-cast with the Rookie Hunter guys, but he is back to discuss the auspicious news out of BC this week—the outright ban on all grizzly hunting province-wide effective immediately. Until Monday's announcement the grizzly hunt was to continue to be permitted in most areas, albeit with some significant alterations to the regulations, but the recently elected provincial government went back on their word and pushed this decision through, to the surprise of everyone in the hunting and conservation community. This decision went against numerous expert and scientific recommendations that supported the unquestionable sustainability of a continued grizzly hunt. Instead, the government, in an authoritarian move, decided to place a higher value on emotion and manipulated statistics, than science and true conservation. This decision was steered

On this episode, Adam is joined by Tom McIntyre who, over his long and illustrious career as a writer and author in the hunting field, has had the good fortune to hunt all over the globe. Tom’s true passion however, is Africa, and in his latest book Augusts in Africa, he shares the unique perspectives and experiences he’s gleaned from hunting on the Dark Continent over the past 40 years. What makes this book so unique, however, is the multi-decade approach Tom takes to telling not only his stories but also the story of hunting and conservation in Africa, and just how much the safari experience has changed over the years. In the pages of this book, you won’t find the typically glorified “rich man’s African safari” tales. This is a book about a deep love and respect for a land, its people and the game animals that roam its storied savannahs, jungles and veldt.  Regardless of your opinion on hunting in Africa, what happens there impacts hunters and the public perception of hunting around the globe. Tom’s book an
